Piano roll snap ?

Hi all ...

I'm a little lost with the piano roll , i want to be able to meve precisly or to stretch note lenght and to falow the grid , but the magnetism isn't workin ..

My snap is enable of course , and in fact it works if i draw a note (if i have 1/16) it draws it good but moving or resizing already played notes isn't taking snap in consideration ..

Is there an option or some specific to the piano roll in X1 that i missed ?

Turn Magnetism off to have notes snap exactly to the grid.

Thks scott but isn't it illogical ? i mean the notes don't even fallow the magnetism !! (witch is set to the same as the grid)

it's working just openend another time prefernces , apply again and now working ....gotta enable of course magnetsim

What is crazy is that the grid of the pianoroll fallow the magnetism resolution even if i tell her to not fallow the magnetism value ...!! :(

I want to have displayed ligne every1/16 so "double croche "selected , but if i set the magnetism to 1/8 , the lignes then appears all the 1/8 even if it's 1/16 selected ...

Scott had it right. If you want to have notes snap only to gridlines, turn magnetism Off. This is how things worked before magnetism was added in the late Creataceous. Magnetism allows you to drag a note without having it snap to grid unless it is within the "magnetic" field" definied by the strength. High stength means it will snap to the grid from a greater distance.

It is somewhat counter-intuitive, then, that "Off" means notes snap to the nearest grid line from any distance. It should really be called "Infinite Strength". But since the concept of Magnetic strength came along after basic snap-to-grid functionality was already in place, it was implemented as On/Off.

the magnetism is set to high ....if i turn off the mgnetism , moving the notes on the piano roll is just like no mgnetism at all

i understand that if i enable the magnetism , it will be the reference ...but turning it off ..how do you place a note on the grid without tapping the exct value or passing 20 sec to try to place it right ....with mouse as no magnetism is active ?

Also as mentionned before , the option fallow the magnetism is unselected but the grid displaying lines of the magnetism resolution anyway...

All I can tell you is to try it for yourself, and you'll understand. Snap and magnetism are two different concepts. Snap does not depend on magnetic strength being enabled.

I'd like to know why, in the piano roll under View\Grid Resolution, "Follow Snap Settings" is always grayed out. - Also, from v8.5 I miss how when adding notes the next one added was the same duration as the last one added, or the last one clicked on. I guess I just have to get used to such changes. I do like X1 but there a definite curve even though I do 'get it'. - Okay, so that part was off subject. Sorry. But I still would like to know about the "Follow Snap Settings" thing.

Is the global snap on, regardless of value?   I don't think the PRV snap works otherwise...

For duration, there's a "Last Used" (or similar) in the right-click menu.

stevec has you covered, the PRV snap is only functional if global snap is on.

The last selected bit is accessed from the HUD via the middle mouse button.
