Blue Shadows On The Trail - Cover of The Three Amigo's

Been a while since I posted anything so I thought I'd throw this out there.

It's a song from my favorite comedy, The Three Amigo's. It's not the song by Roy Rogers, but rather it was written just for the movie. It's an obvious rip off of Roy's song, down to the scene in the movie this is from.

This is my first recording with my new mic pre-amp. I also treated my room a little with some foam pads and old bed sheets. It dampened it significantly and eliminated a lot of standing wave's and echo.

Hope everyone enjoys, and as always all feedback good and bad is welcome and requested. Can't improve without feedback.

Project specs:

Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition x86 (Sorry X1, I couldn't take it anymore. We had to part ways.)
31 Tracks
44.1/24 (Exported to 44.1/32 then ripped directly to 320/48kHz MP3 with no dithering.)
Sonitus EQ
Sonitus Compressor
Sonitus Delay
Sonitus Reverb
Spectra FX Chorus
Boost 11
And nothing else (K.I.S.S.)

Instruments:
Blue Bluebird Mic
Art Pro MPA II Reference Series Tube Pre-Amp
Fender Squier San Miguel Acoustic
Fender Squier Precision Bass
Me on all vocals/backups

Synths:

Really nice version Bub, sounds sweet! Fine lead vocal and harmony work, and I like the relaxed instrumentation. Guitars are really nice.

Only a couple of nits - one or two vocal lines seemed to fade away at the end i.e. 'on the trail', or was that intentional? Overall the mix sounds quite 'centred', but still clear and precise, so no big deal there.

Hey there Bub, this is excellent

The mix is as clear as a bell - and thinking of the thread in the CH, the acoustic guitar is recorded perfectly.

    Great stuff all round.

Amazing, I too learned this tune after the first time I heard it.  I had even thought of recording it, but you've done such an excellent job that I will bow to your cover.

Excellect choice and well done!  Love the vocals.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. It was a lot of fun doing this song and I'm glad you all enjoyed it. I hardly had to touch anything EQ/Compression wise. Goes to show what even a half way decent mic and preamp can do for your mixes. Heck, the bass ... it's dry with the EQ rolled off a little and that's it.

@james ... There are a couple of spots that I backed off the mic and you can hear it. I figured it would add some character. :) And heck, if that's the worst criticism I'm going to get on it, that's awesome!

Treating the walls in my room and the new mic/preamp have changed everything for me. My 'old' mic is literally old. 27 + years. And I never used a pre amp before. I always ran direct in to my Fast Track Ultra.

@daryl ... This song is a bear to figure out how to play isn't it? :) The tab's on the net don't even come remotely close.  It sounds like it should be simple but there are some very intricate chords in it. I couldn't figure out the chords going in to the second vocal break, so I repeated the first one.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Hey, Bub,

Really nice job on this cool cover from the classic movie!

The acoustic guitar and strings sound great together, and your vocals and harmonies are perfect for the song.  The mix also sounds really good, and right on the money for the genre.

    Really good stuff!

Terrific stuff Bub.  Your vocals sound great as does the mix.  The intro reminded me a wee bit of the Mills Brothers version of "If I Didn't Care".  I love that held note on "dream" at the end.

Phil, Freddy, gcolbert ... thanks for listening and I'm glad you like it.

Freddy ... that beginning was used in almost every Mills Brothers and Ink Spots song they ever recorded if I'm not mistaken. :)

If I Didn't Care was the Ink Spots iirc.

Thanks Mike! Glad you liked it. It seems that these simpler songs are the most fun and come out the best for me. Big productions like the I did called In Dreams just suck the life out of me by the end of it. I've been doing basic songs like this lately and I've been enjoying myself a lot more.
Now I have to listen to Marty Robbins for the rest of the day. :-)
Excellent idea! I think I'll fire up Pandora and let er' go.

Finished replacing all the outlets and switches yesterday in the front half of the house. Found some old wiring horror's, glad we decided to replace everything. Now we're painting. Marty will make some great background music. :)

I accidentally shamelessly plugged it in another thread. :) We were talking about the ART stupid deal of the day and I mentioned I did this song with that particular ART unit they had on sale.

Feel free to download it if you like it. :)

Have to go ... the wife took off today so we could paint ... getting nagged right now.

    Thanks,
