    Hi Scott,

    Another Great video!!!

I was just re-reading chapter 6 in your X1 power book tonight and had stopped on the section about using the Event Inspector. The info was clear and concise but I have never used the Event Inspector and really did not understand the advantages until seeing this video.

I have been doing a lot of midi editing this week and the Event Inspector would have been very handy in some cases. This one is going up on my control bar tomorrow.

Thanks so much for another winner!

    Kind regards,
    Rick

    As always, Thanks Scott!

I really appreciate these vids. I've never really used the event inspector, but increasing groups of notes by percentages is awesome and definitely usable for what I do.

    Hey Rick,

Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the Event Inspector is very useful and it's earned a permanent place on my X1 Control Bar. How are you getting along with X1?

    Hi Dave,

Sorry again for the delay with the SONAR X1 Power supplements. I _will_ get them done. Slowly but surely I'll be posting new videos on a regular basis.

Thanks and I'm glad you've enjoyed the ones posted so far!

    Hi Josh,

My pleasure and thanks for watching! Glad you liked it. Yeah, for working with groups of MIDI notes, the Event Inspector makes edits very easy. I do wish I could separate it from the Control Bar, but maybe we'll see that in a future version.

    Hi Mike,

Cool... I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the Event Inspector has been around for a while, but in past versions it was kind of hidden as a toolbar, which wasn't displayed by default. So, a lot of users missed it.

    Thanks!

    @ Scott,

I'm getting along in X1 nicely. There are a few quirks that need worked out but I really like the browser, multidock, and smart tool. Hoping X1C will bring some more magic and less quirks.   Again your X1 power book and videos have been invaluable, Thanks!

    @ Fred Holmes

Not sure if this helps but I just saw a recent thread in this forum talking about people not being able to view videos using IE9 unless they used the 32bit version. I'm using FF 4.0.1 in win 7 x64 and the videos work fine.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Philipp,

Yes, I'm sorry for the delay. The problem is that the publisher is working on an international distribution deal for their entire catalog and not just my book, which is why it's taking so long.

The good news is they tell me it should be completed soon, but the bad news is it will still be about 1 to 2 months before that happens.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Scott!

In the video you mentioned increasing duration by 120% (a note that was 100 clicks long now becomes 120). Then you said that you could effectively undo by changing relative duration by 80%. The problem is if this is now working off of the new duration (120) then 80% will be 96 clicks. Or does it modify on the original clicks of 100 until you change focus?

    Just wondering...

Thanks again for your videos and I'm still enjoying the X1 Power Book!

Scott, great video...thanks for sharing! I picked up a few tricks from this as well. Having used inspector quite a bit over the years, it's nice to see how others use it. :)

I gotta ask though, at 0:55 in your video, how the heck are your windows moving like a roll-a-dex?! LOL!! Is that the new Windows beta or something? I can't make my Win 7 do that...it looks so cool man! Hahaha! :)

I've got another question about the duration field. In the first part of the video there is no MIDI selected and that field shows 121 as soon as you select the audio clip. It doesn't change when you include the other audio clip to the selection. The question: What is it telling me? It's not likely the clip length (which would be what I expect) at least not in ticks.

Similar question about the pitch, velocity and channel fields. What are they showing, considering that it's an audio clip selection that is dealt with?

    Hi Gregg,

No, it doesn't work that way. Remember in the video when I mentioned that 100% represents the current value. So by typing in 120%, I'm actually increasing the value by 20%. Then that new value is now represented by 100%. So to remove the 20% I would type in 80% because that is 20% lower than the default 100% value. Just keep in mind that 100% always represents the current value.

Hahaha! :)
Thanks, Danny! That's actually a built-in Windows feature that I think started with Windows Vista. Instead of switching windows by pressing ALT+Tab, you press the Windows Key + Tab, but you have to have the Windows Aero feature activated for it to work. Yeah, I thought it looked cool too, which is why I included it in the video.

So do you have any of your own tips for using the Event Inspector? You said you've been using it a lot for a while now... just curious...

    Hi Frank,

I really don't know... as far as I know, it's showing some arbitrary data or maybe it's a bug. All I know for sure is that you can't use those fields when you're working with entire clips. They simply don't work... only the Time field works in that situation.

Thanks for watching! Did you like it?

Oh yes, I did like it. Good presentation, a clear train of thought, the right density of info/time and a comforting voice. A pleasure to watch.
Even though I am not hopping on the X1 train now I do follow the development closely, so that I am well prepared should I jump in at some point.

No big deal with the "false info" in those fields, but I'd think they should black out when they don't fit instead of showing something arbitrary. The duration field could be used to show/edit clip length (in case of multiple selection the duration from first clip start to last clip end), imo, although ticks won't be the best measurement in that case, should use time or measure/beat for clips.
But that's just me always finding room for improvement in anything I look at. Don't tell my girl friend .

Btw, Greg is right. What he (and me as well) stumbled over is that you said that 80% would
"bring them back to the default values" (after the 120% step), which isn't correct.
Add 20% to 100 and you get 120, but subtract 20%  from 120 and you won't get back to 100 but to 96 (20% of 120 = 24). To effectively bring the notes back to how long they were before you'd need to type 83.333333333333333etc% .

Entirely minor detail, only us math geeks will notice, so I think you shouldn't lose hair about it.

Keep up the good work, Scott.

    Hey Frank,

Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, man! I hate it when that happens. You and Gregg are absolutely right (sorry Gregg!). I messed up in that section about scaling the duration. Darn it all! Well, maybe I can post a corrected video sometime... just not sure when.

Thanks for letting me know! I appreciate it.
