And another Channel Strip... (Mix Control Pro) UPDATE
Already mentioned it in another thread and this might be redundant if you own X1, but, if your still using 8.5 or are a GAS victim like me... I've been testing this cool channel strip by DNR. The layout is terrific IMHO - it almost takes my entire MacBook display, but it's totally worth it. There's also a smaller version for those who prefer that. Makes sculpting sounds a joy. Pretty flexible, sounds good, and the spectrum display is handy. Not too sure about the saturation though, but I'm usually not a big fan of saturation in such devices. Oh yeah, and it's not too pricey. More info and a demo available at: http://www.teamdnr.net/mixcontrol/

I was a bit disappointed recently when I read that Mix Control was to be discontinued mid-August. Turns out that there was a huge misunderstanding and that what they actually meant that they were working on version 2 - which will be a free upgrade for all version 1 users - though donations for development are accepted. Version 2 should be out sometime before the end of the year. Version 1 i still available for as little as $49. Awesome little plug-in - features one of my favorite EQ - and as light on the CPU as they get...

This looks like a REALLY nice channel strip... I especially like the "Stereo" section. That's always a bonus if it works well. I mean, really, that's a whole lot of processing power in a single channel strip... AND you said it's CPU friendly...that's a major bonus... How's the transparency?

Not sure I understand what you mean exactly by transparency. Sound-wise, it can be transparent or colored - you have 2 different compression modes and 3 different saturation modes. The hit on the CPU is totally negligible - unless you've already almost maxed out your cpu, you'l have no problem adding this guy to every tack in a mix. FWIW, that first version was programmed by Michael Olsen, formerly of Sonic Timeworks (the had very nice plug-ins, including an EQ that was bundled w/ Sonar for a while), now w/ Camel Audio.

That was the question... Does it add color...which, as you said, is dependent on mode of use...so that's good... I just got my Waves Gold (KA-CHING $97)....and Breeze ($49)...and want to get the Vocal Rider while it's on sale..and maybe Aphex...and have to put pennies away for X2....if I can squeeze this in there somehow I'd like to...especially since you get the next version free if you buy it....

Just purchased this instead of Alloy2. Anyone know what will be included in the v2 update in Q4 2012?

Congrats on your purchase! Hope you enjoy it! I have no idea what v2 will look like. And honestly, I don't know what part of it I'd like them to upgrade. As is, when it came out, it looked and felt like someone had custom-designed a channel strip just for me, no kidding. I guess I'd like to see a few more compression modes, but I'm perfectly happy w/ it as is. But I'd actually prefer if they didn't change it too much.

Rain Thanks for this - I demoed this at same time as Alloy 2 - I purchased this! Very nice, very easy and even though I do have pro channel, this is more elegant and easier I feel. Love the EQ and just might use it for that! I'm really not sure about Alloy 2 - nicer GUI but sound wise etc, not worth $79 upgrade I don't think. Cheers Nigel

Glad you guys like it. That EQ is one of my favorite "modern" parametric EQ along w/ the one is Studio One. Actually, that's one minor thing I'd like to see added as an option: I usually prefer to work w/ displays like the one on Studio One Eq, where frequencies are represented by bands instead of curves.

cclarry I think one of the most INTERESTING and USEFUL features I see on this is the ability to SOLO the frequencies....what a great idea... Definitely a big plus. Come to think of it - another thing I might like see them "borrow" from Waves H-EQ - the reference keyboard, so that you can identify/select frequencies w/ actual notes. Another thing I've seen only in Waves H series is the compressor release referring to BPM - which only makes sense if you think of it. These 2 things should become standard in the future IMHO, at least optionally.

Anyone know which files we are suppose to install? On my download page in my account with them, it has several files, but there are no instructions on which ones to use. The ones that end in "pkg" have no executable files, so I don't know how to install them. I only installed the "mixcontrolprox64.zip" file which had an application file in it. What are the "pkg" files for and how do we install them?

Interesting, just downloaded both the MixControlProx64_1.5r6 and MixControlx64_1.0r7 x64 files. The one with Pro in the file name is around 16MB, the other is only 6MB. I also downloaded the manual but it does not say anything about which files to DL or install. Which files are PC people installing? Kind regards, Rick

I was in the same quandry but installed the Pro64 (reason? Pro & maybe 1.5 was newest version? who knows). Didn't know what .pkg was either but doesn't work anyway for PC so landed on the above. Don't these developers know that common sense isn't that common and some (and me often) need it spelled out? It would at least alleviate some initial frustration and criticizm. But even my trial and error only took a few minutes. :-) FWIW, loading this version gave me both the small and big versions of the plug. Very nice and well layed out - enjoying it so far.

Does it ask for a license? From what I understand, they removed copy protection from the full product - you either download the demo version with its restrictions or pay and get access to download the full version. No further authorization required. Though maybe it's just reading my old license, which was installed with the previous full version. But I'd give it a try. Uninstall the demo and download your full version from you user area (or whatever DNR call it). If that doesn't work, let us know.
