SONAR X1 receives 'Heavy Metal' seal of approval \m/

Just got my shiny new copy of Megadeth's latest (and rather excellent) album Th1rt3en, and it seems guitarist Chris Broderick is a Cakewalk fan

Which is nice.

    ^^^ hahaha.

That's strange, I've never seen CW take credit for that. It seems like this band is a little better known than most Sonar endorsers.

I can only think that a virtuoso musician doesn't fit the bill to attract Cakewalk's archetypal potential customer to X1?

If I had a member of Megadeth using one of my products, I'd want every bugger to know.

    time to update the WIKI:

    :-)

    "Equipment

Chris was endorsed by Ibanez guitars and DiMarzio Pickups (A Pair of D Activator 7's neck and bridge models) along with ENGL amplifiers and Ernie Ball Slinky strings. Before using Ibanez Guitars, he used Schecter Guitars with Seymour Duncan pickups. In the past he has also used Bare Knuckle Pickups, mainly the coldsweat models.
Despite an ENGL endorsement, both he and Dave used Marshall JVM amplifiers to record Endgame. Mustaine prefers the sound of Marshall amps in Megadeth and thus would not allow Broderick to use ENGL.
In January 2011, Chris Broderick left Ibanez and is now endorsing Jackson Guitars. He will be playing a custom shop archtop soloist produced to his personal demands, featuring 24 frets, 12" radius, custom DiMarzio pickups (tentatively called the Fundamental) and will be available in a 6 or 7 string configuration.[4] Chris uses Dunlop Tortex Sharp picks in 1.35mm. Chris uses a pick holder that keeps the pick in place on his thumb, which he has patented with hopes to be in retail production, as stated in his June 2010 Chaos Theory lesson for Guitar World."

I have a vague recollection of Chris posting on the forums a few years back in fact. Seems like a really cool guy (but I'm not surprised, the other guys in Megadeth, despite popular rumour, are actually really good guys too).

It's basic business ethics... endorsement has to be a two way understanding.

For example; As a bar owner you probably wouldn't advertise that a certain celebrity frequented your public house every night unless you had some sort of understanding.

That understanding may be... give me a free drink and I'll sit over in the corner and mind my own business... or it could be... give me 30% of the take and you can put my picture on the sign out front.

The truth is; there is a only a very small portion of the media production industry that pimps it's *celebrity* reputation out to validate vendors of media production gear to people who aren't sure about whether a tool is valid for media production.

That phenomena is relatively new, starting in the very late, very cynical, cocaine fueled 1970's and blossomed in the 1980's.

Endorsements can comes with all sorts of strings attached that cause conflicts of interest. For example; Chris may really love working with X1 but his boss Dave might have a room full of some other gear that represents a higher level of cooperation with another competing vendor.

I'd say that the fact that Chris listed X1 so simply is a good thing all the way around... it strikes a good balance by endorsing the usefulness of X1 and shows some credibility at the same time.

    all the best,
    mike

Not sure why all the bashing. I'm not much into listening to Metal but think it's great Sonar X1 is getting acknowledgement from Megadeth member, regardless whether they looped, puked, or recorded awesome guitar licks.

I think it is great that one can actually record all kinds  of different styles of music with this one. It shows that it is not limited to any one style.
