Sustainpedal not working in Sonar X1 for some reason (PCR-800).

Hey!

I have a Roland PCR-800. For some reason the sustainpedal doesent work anymore. If I connect it to the "hold" input it works. If I connect it to the proper input and try to record pressing the pedal it records "Control 11". So it does something but it dont work as sustain. Any ideas?

The hold input is the right one. The other one is "expression" and generates control 11 as you observed. Expression is meant to be used with a continuous pedal, not the off-on pedal used for sustain. These pedals are just simple electrical paths; it's the synth that decides how to convert the pedal to MIDI.

Thanks, guys, I think maybe this solves the A-500-Sustain-not-working issue in the other forum. I had just gotten to the conclusion last night that the user might have the pedal plugged into the wrong input.

Incidentally, it's the keyboard that converts the pedal input (whether on/off or continuous) to a CC message. The synth just responds to the message from the keyboard... or not, as the case may be.

Funny, I didn't know the PCR-800 was just a controller. I called it a synth.

yep, those are controllers only.  they came with sonar le and dimle, but no internal synth.

I thought that might be the case. I had to double-check before I posted.

ah, the thing is that it works "inverted". so when the pedal is de-pressed it sustains the notes.

that means you have the wrong polarity.  some sustain pedals are normally open, some are normally closed.  it depends on what version your controller/keyboard takes as to which you need.  some controllers/keyboards will allow you to change the polarity in the menu options.  some sustain pedals are switchable by moving a slide switch on them.

Yes, I had the same issue when I got my PCR-500. Wrong polarity. I had to buy a new pedal 'cos the old one didn't have a switch. Fortunately they're quite cheap. I ended up with a nice M-Audio one instead (with a polarity switch) for not much money.

Some of those pedals are switchable from latch to non-latch as well which will create issues (talking from experience )

This confused me for a moment, but given your location, I guess it's a language thing. In English, "pressed" and "depressed" (no hyphen) both mean the same thing in this context. But I gather by "de-pressed" you meant "not pressed".

    HAH!!!!

It had a switch under it that fixed it all! Thanks a lot!

And yeah, english isn't my native language. I'm a swede. ;-) Sorry about the errors. Lucky for me you guys are such an intelligent bunch who understand me anyway! ;-)
