Melodyne Plugin Crashing
Hi there. I've posted before and contacted Celemony but never got a resolution. So was just check if you guys had same problem or suggestion I have Melodyne Editor 2.0 (My previous versions had same problem also). Works fine in stand alone. The trouble I have is with the plugin in X1.. ..any version. Its unstable. It crashes Sonar during editing sessions. And I have to do complete PC re-start. I've done all the suggested things, buffer to 1024, edit small sections, turn off all plugins, don't instal ram hugging progs like EZ Drummer, but it still crashes inderminantly. It seems to start with a ghosting on the screen, then gives up So I've been doing my editing off-line, but the concept of the plugin is great, just cant use it. Any ideas. Could it be a video card problem... I have ATI Radeon HD4670 FYI I'm X1e, i7, 6G Ram, Win7 and its stable rest of the time. Much appreciated from cold and grey UK.

I've had this crashing problem ever since I had to upgrade from the old Melodyne Plugin to Melodyne Editor. (Plugin worked fine for years, but wasn't Windows 7 compatible). I know there are other Sonar users who have the same problem, e.g. 'Twig'. I can work with Editor for about five minutes before it locks up, then locks up and crashes Sonar. I've been a constant complainant to Celemony but their position is "We can't duplicate it - it must be you and your setup". Using it standalone is not tenable as you obviously need to hear a vocal track in context to be able to make judgements. They won't view the Sonar dump files for clues even. I see you've just posted on the Celemony forum. Read this thread also (if you haven't already...) http://www.celemony.com/userforum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7249&p=28310#p28310 PS: I bought Studio One Version Pro in order to be able to use Melodyne there, where it's built in using what Celemony call ARA technology. PPS: I also have a Radeon (HD4890), but I can't think a particular video card could be responsible - could it?? How could such a conflict be found let alone cured??

Thanks, Its not just me then. I have just put this in on Celemony forum too, where I also have previous posts. Can I ask what your video card is ? You have plenty of Ram so its not that. Co could it be the Lava lamp ... I have one too ???

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the video card.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Have you tried an experiment? Open a new project with ONE audio track and record a small section of audio.....vocals only for about a minute. Then insert ME and see what it does. I used to have all sorts of crashes when I was working on my laptop. But, being an off the shelf and online computer it had all sorts of stuff running in the background. On my newer off line DAW, with no AV or crapware, ME now runs just about perfectly even when in the poly mode. I still get the occasional glitch but out and out crashes are pretty much a thing of the past. I still save as often as I did on the lappy regardless. I would be looking at the programs running in the background, because they take CPU and memory away from ME. The other day, I even had several (2 or 3) instances of ME running in real time in different tracks and not even a hiccup. I normally run one and bounce it before working the next track.

I find it pretty unstable yeah. It was completely unusable for a while in fact, but since the last couple of updates its been ok-ish. Dunno whether this is inherent to Melodyne in general, or whether it and Sonar don't get along.

Yep - problems here too. I too believe it is a graphical problem as the first signs of a crash are that Melodyne stops automatically refreshing.

Same issues here with Melodyne Editor 2.0. Random crashes or frozen. Quite annoying when trying to mix.

I don't use it as a plugin because of stability issues. I find it more stable using it in Standalone mode and integrating with Sonar by adding Melodyne to the Utilities (X1) or Tools (Pre-X1) menu by using SonarUtils: http://www.digifreq.com/d..req/download.asp?ID=66. In particular, I tend to take advantage of the track layers in Sonar. I will create a new layer, then duplicate the audio clip before sending to Melodyne. That way I get a before/after and can go back if needed.

I also use iZotope RX this way. It is a key reason I use Sonar rather than Pro Tools for many projects, as the standalone editor in RX has much more flexibility and depth of editing than the plugins, and interfacing with the standalone editor in RX with files in Pro Tools is an enormous, manual PITA. Sonar makes it easy. :-)

This is very interesting, thank you. however, i'm not really understanding what the method is. Really would appreciate if you could put it simply for and old, fairly non tech person. What do I need to do to implement it and how do I use it. I would appreciated that. I know I'm the dummy here. Cheers. Btw... I had also some grey box ghosting. i got rid of this by turning AERO ON in win 7. Br C

I just got an email from Celemony about an update: Maybe this will solve it for you. I would certainly be in touch with Celemony as it appears to be some sort of bug issue if it is crashing with one audio track. If it was a download it could also be a corrupted file as well. here's the email... well part of it. Notice the last bullet point. Since the beginning of December, thousands of Melodyne users have already downloaded Melodyne editor 2.0 and now Version 2.0.1 has been released. So developments are coming thick and fast, and we would like to recommend the update to you – as Version 2 brings you important new functions and advantages: - Extended timing tools – control the attack and the time course within notes
- True Scale & Tuning – comprehensive possibilities for the use, editing and extraction of scales from audio material
- Rewire support – integration with Rewire-compatible DAWs as an alternative to plug-in operation
- Greater clarity and ease-of-use – highlighting of blobs as they play back, improved display of time and pitch grids
- Significantly more keyboard shortcuts in plug-in mode allow you to work faster and more easily
- Numerous small optimizations and bug fixes
