loop recording fixed

It was good to see:
  • Resolved an issue when loop recording where samples would be lost at the end of clips if using ASIO driver mode
... in the list of fixes. It's a long standing bug, reported (by me, anyway) more than four years ago.

Looks like it is fixed, according to my setup.

Loop recording creates a single file while looping.

In 8.3, the file itself has no gaps, but the layers Sonar creates at the loop points are all short by a small amount at the end. The size of the gap is essentially the ASIO reported latency. In a pinch, it is possible to grab the file onto a track and create clips the right length without gaps.

In X1-d (expanded) the recorded file again has no gaps. The layers are now created the correct length, so when sliding them together end-to-end in their original order, they make gapless audio with no missing samples.

How to test:
Set a snap, say 1/4.
Set a loop point, say starting at measure 3 and ending at 5.
Start recording, say a measure or less before the loop start point.
Capture several passes around the loop, then stop.
Examine the layers by zooming in and enabling the "samples" ruler.
Place the layers end-to-end and playback to check for clicks.

By the way, this does not use punch recording. Combining the two on the same interval is unnecessary and doesn't work well.
