Standard notation for MIDI in Essentials

If I decide to buy one version it will probably be Essential. But the trial you get to download and try is not Essentials. And I prefer Standard notation when editing MIDI files, just inputing it in standard notation is what feels natural to me. I also like that you can print out MIDI files in standard notation. So my question is: Is the standard noatation part any downsized in Essential compared to Producer? Also how do I view two or more tracks at the same time in the staff view?

Sorry, even though this is also the Essentials forum I don't think many on here actually have it.

I can't imagine that the modes of notation would differ between the versions...

Me either but without using it I don't know for sure. I posted primarily because no one else did.  I hate to see a post go unanswered. Even if the answer is useless to the poster. Hopefully someone that knows can give a knowledgeable answer.

Sonar X1 is great DAW in many ways but it's notation is years behind all other major DAWs. If you do most of your work in notation save yourself some real grief and look at Cubase, Protools or Digital Performer for Windows.

So true...  Unfortunatley....

Just found out that Pro Tools MP is getting a price drop from $249 to $99.

Pro Tools MP 9 (or just "MP"):

1) Is a full version of the program
2) Has 48 audio tracks (the same that Pro Tools LE and M-Powered had)
3) Features Automatic Delay Compensation (something PT LE and M-Powered missed)
4) Runs only with M-AUDIO interfaces

So if you can live with 48 tracks of audio, and some of the other "limitations" of PT - it might be a nice experiment if you have a compatible M-Audio interface and $99.

Still only have Sonar in terms of a DAW...

But, if you work primarily in notation, Sonar's current level of notation is simply not up to the standards of its major competitors.

Another option is to do your composing in a notation program and then input the file into a sequencer for further editing.

That does offer one workflow advantage - one concentrates first on writing, and then on honing musicality.  One is not tempted to work on the two different tasks at the same time.

I have tried Cubase and I did not like it.

Try the notation of the demo. I bet it's the same as in Essentials. At least: You can be sure, that it's not worse than in Essentials! If it's sufficient to you, I'm sure you can buy Essentials. As mentioned above, it's not good enough if you do most of your work using notation.

Finding a 100% solid answer is difficult, it seems, perhaps because SONAR's notation is not on a level sufficient for heavy users.

That's a small price, and would make it worth wile to have next to Sonar X1, just for fun.
Got any link for this?
