That was my lappy which came with the OS installed. I'm talking apps and libraries.

The thing I detest about newer libraries is that if you have to install the app (in may cases, Toontrack being one that comes to mind) you simply must use their library installer vs. a drive image.

Hmmm, I've never found that with anything using an image restore onto the same drive it was imaged from.

Some things generate a system ID so if the system is changed (i.e new hdd) that would cause it, but returning a messed up OS onto an unchanged system shoud be OK.

Yeah, I understand that Jon. I've never had to restore an image to the same drive (yet). In the case of my lappy it was all new drives and I had hoped to simply copy >800GB from my three year old drive to my new drive would work. Not so for Toontrack and a few others.

yep.  one at a time.  5 days sounds reasonable.  I hope it doesn't take longer than that.

I'm finally up to X1 (original).  I've got all of my IK stuff installed but not registered yet.  only a few NI things - on that note I have to say that regardless of anything else, if we're talking about registration of software only, I like NI Service Center better than any other registration process.  better than cake, toontrack, IK.  hands down it's the easiest to use, IMO.

Of all I have IK is bar far the worst. The old method is tedious and the new method seems to work 1 out of 30 times. Fortunately, I only use the new method for ARC at this point.

IK's old method was archaic.  I hated it.  The new method isn't horrible, but it could be much better.  I've never had it "fail" for me, but we'll see when I start reauthorizing stuff (probably today).

Cake and Toontrack are about even.  they're not bad, just not "easy" like NI is.

How much easier could Cake's method be?...

Copy, paste, enter. Load, copy, paste enter...done.

It's one of my favourite things about Sonar.

Well my absolute favorites are the kinds where you buy online, they send you a download code that you enter once (to download) and from then on, install anywhere you want. Never need to enter the download code again. These are usually Kontakt based libraries.
