Other than that Mick Ronson's 'Just like this' is currently getting most plays just now.

This morning it is a combination of Audrey's synth playing, Spring's clicking at the window with the Robin's nest on the other side and the songs of Cardinals, Robins, American Gold Finches, and Jays....

Jonbouy - I am also listening way too much to a song I am ready to send to Bapu for bass.  I drive 60 miles a day to work (30 miles each way) and have this song looping from my iPhone.  Seems like I keep hearing new things to check all the time!

I did listen to Bonnie's new album online and it sounds great.  I have also been checking out a lot of the newer pop bands on the charts to keep current (LOL).

I am also looking for that one or two songs that I can use as a reference.  I posted a thread about this months ago.  Haven't found that most special song yet.

The Kate Bush talk of yesterday, as well as me starting Graeme Thomson's "Under the Ivy" has me listening to Kate's "Hounds of Love" this morning.  For me it's one of those perfect albums, front side to back.

I am listening to loud annoying mechanical noise not by choice. I guess maybe I'm listening to some industrial.

Hi,

Several things.

Just got my new turntable ... massively awesome Stanton ... finally!

First thing I put on?  Tomita - The Firebird Suite ... had to get my ears blown off again!

Next was: Bob Weir - Looks Like Rain from his first solo album. I have always loved this piece and it has an absolutely magicakl guitar work by Jerry.

One member in the board knows what I played next, but it can not be mentioned here ... it's illegal and Bapu has not given it permission!

After that ... I have in order of play ... sort of:

Roger Chapman - Hyenas Only Laugh for Fun (Not Bapu or Mooch!). Massive guitar album by the Family members. Under appreciated album, and I guess not many folks can handle Chili Con Carne or many other gems! Take Your Partners!

Garry Moore Band - His first solo album. Gonna MP3 "Spirit" which is the greatest and best and most insane guitar solo I have ever heard!

200 Motels - I only have the LP's. And I love this movie and think it is a real fun trip ... and I gotta hear that song ... Bapu Dental Hygiene, and Bapu Dimention, and Bapu Mystery Roach, and Bapu Donovan .... just can't help it ... and it's gonna be LOUD.

Golden Earring - Switch. Love the opening of that album and there are good things in there, but the album was ignored and not enjoyed as much, because it didn't have a "hit".

The Doors - LA Woman -- Gotta get rid of that LP!

Chicago 2 - Gotta get rid of that LP!

I really like it, I think it's a very good album. The fact that the songs are 35ish years old appeals to me, and the modern production really does them justice. And Eddie's rig sounds as sweet as it's ever done.

Just finished up listening to Richie Kotzen as Wilson Hawk "The Road", the tribute album he did with Richie Zito (producer) to some of his biggest influences, people like Otis Redding, Al Green, Sam & Dave and Curtis Mayfield.  If you've never heard it it is well worth checking out.  It's certainly not a guitar oriented album as one would expect, but it's a great listen.

I think it's great. I haven't missed Anthony. The recording sounds excellent and no doubt Eddie hasn't lost a thing and still get's it.
I love his "thinking" and I'm guessing that he probably started out on keys- at least it seems to me he may have- he is so very tasteful in his choice of inversions and working with the bass....not to mention the way he seems to look at the fretboard like keys with his
tapping technique.
I still have many listens to get a full scope but I sure won't mind.
I got the disc that includes the DVD of them playing acoustic versions of tunes and that was icing on the cake.

Another follow-up to the Van Halen album discussion.  The new album is covered in this months "Inside Track: Secrets Of The Mix Engineers" with engineer Ross Hogarth in this months SOS magazine.

If you have a subscription you can read the article here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may12/articles/it-0512.htm

In it Ross Hogarth talks about bringing Eddie's sound forward into a more modern production, about taking his old method of guitar on the left, effects on the right and instead, using two full amp rigs split hard right and hard left resulting in a wide mono sound that is heard on the record.

It's a great article if you like the album.

I've had the Swedish Band "Gränslandet" looping on Spotify for two weeks.

They are friends of friends on the Swedish Forum I belong to... The album is modern and traditional bluegrass-pop with some Latino something or other thrown in here and there.  It's all in Swedish which had me running for my translator, and I'm working hard to memorize some of it so I can sing along with Åsa.  She has a LOVELY voice.  You could do a lot worse than listen to this album.

Especially the song "Songen Utan Namn" (song without a name).  It's pure heaven.
