Latest Melodyne and X1d

Does anyone use the latest Melodyne with X1d successfully without ANY issues?

I have plugin V2 (I think, sorry for the lack of knowledge.  Been awhile since I've updated Melodyne).
It works, but I keep getting asked to upgrade.

I am holding off because I've read multiple times that Melodyne has a memory leak issue in Sonar.  Is this still an issue?  I've read that it actually crashes X1.  This is all hearsay so I could be WAY off base, but figured I'd ask.

Thanks guys!

I just purchased Melodyne Editor Version 2, but have not used it yet in Sonar X1d Expanded.  I've been monkeying around with it in stand-alone mode, but plan to use it tomorrow night on a small session with a friend of mine.  There are several threads about Melodyne and Sonar X1d Expanded if you search for them on the forum.  From what I understand, you have to use "normal" bounce and not "fast" bounce in order for it to work.  I've also read that it works normally in Sonar v8.5.3 which I did not load onto my new laptop.  I'm wondering if I should install 8.5.3 and if it might cause any conflicts with X1.  Maybe someone else will chime in on this topic.

I'm using v1.3 and it works pretty well for me in Sonar X1d.  If there is a memory leak problem with it, it's a pretty slow/minor one.  I run Sonar for hours at a time with melodyne on several tracks without running out of memory and crashing.   That's not too say that melodyne doesn't crash Sonar at times when I do push the memory usage too far or for some other unknown reason.

I also do the "normal bounce". Sucks! I think I will hold off for as long as I possibly can because the version I have now works. So... I won't poke the bear haha

Yes, there is a memory leak issue, acknowledged by Celemony after they were informed of it by Cakewalk in February following crash dump reports from some Sonar users including me.  They are working on it and a new version of Editor 2.0 is in the works.

Some Sonar users report no problems, some do.  In my case, I can only work on a short clip for five minutes or so before Melodyne freezes solid and in the process locks up Sonar, requiring a Task Manager forced close and a reboot.  I'm on Windows 7 with 32Gb of RAM and that makes no difference.

The additional issue of bouncing a Melodyned clip in real time and not fast seems to be a bug introduced by Cakewalk in X1D and has been reported.  But it's no big deal compared with the whole bloody issue locking up!

This is what gives me great pause to shell out $400 for the full-monty editor.
There's enough smoke with Melodyne to know there's plenty of fire; the trial has hung on my system a few times. Just rankles me to buy something I KNOW is buggy.
    Risk vs. reward, I reckon.

I use it on Studio One 2 as it uses the new ARA technology that allows to to connect at a deep level within the host.
I've tried it as a VST plugin within SONAR and don't have any issue to report but because of the added benefits of using it in real time in S1 I haven't really given it a solid workout. Also works exceptionally well in standalone. I'm so impressed by it I'm thinking of shelling out for the Editor version but waiting on starting my studio build once my new house is finished. Not that that's started yet either.

I've only used plugin because I'm able to just open er up and use it basically as an FX that I can just bounce once done. How does Editor work with Sonar?

Editor is the top Melodyne version so it has more features than Essential which is the basic version that I have now.
Not to be confused with Sonars Essential, Studio or Producer Versions.

But in Presonus Studio One Melodyne works at a whole other level  because of ARA that provides a much deeper link to the host than VST alone.

Same here...  that's the reason I purchased S1 and it was worth it IMHO.   The ARA integration is, for me, a much better experience than using Melodyne as a plugin.  I have done that a few times in SONAR too, but it's hard to compare.  So even for short clips I'll now copy the clip into S1, edit with Melodyne, bounce the results, then import the new file into my SONAR project.

FWIW, I did upgrade to Editor when they were having $149 special, which included the free upgrade to 2.0, and I'm glad I did.  The new features I've had a chance to play with are pretty nice, and I haven't even come close to using them all...  The non-Western scales are fun!

yes, we need ARA in Sonar. And why would Cakewalk not integrate it. There is a SDK by Celemony, so what stops them to have ARA in X1E?

ARA seems like such a new technology I think that Presonus is first to bring it to the DAW world. I don't know whether Cakewalks tie to ROLANDs variphrase technology through VVocal will change their desire/need to embrace ARA.
There may be barriers but I wouldn't really know - just thinking out loud really.
One thing is clear though and that is that ARA makes Celemony the leader in this area as what can be done to individual/multiple audio notes is unbelievable.

I'm getting "buyers remorse".  I've seen all the glowing reports about how great Melodyne is and better than any other of this type software.  M/F had their stupid deal of the day for Melodyne so I bought it (will be here Monday).  After I bought it I now see several threads about problems or how it doesn't work right with X1.

I guess this is a good example of "Murphy's Law".

Personally I don't use the plugin. I've had stability issues.

Rather, I added Melodyne (and others like iZotope RX2) to my Tools menu.

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013099

Now when I want to tune something I will create a new layer and copy the vocal there, mute the first layer, select the second, and go to Tools and select my editor (in this case Melodyne.) Then I edit in the full Melodyne Editor, Save, and it will be imported back into Sonar automatically.

I find this much more usable than using the plugin anyway, and it's more stable.

    BTW I'm using 1.3.0 (64-bit.)

    Peace,

    Tunes
