Browsing loops - May 17, 12 6:34 PM ( #1 )
Whasup brothers?

Why, when I am browsing my loops in X1, they always preview in a very slow bpm? Is there something I supose to turn on (or off) to listen them at the original tempo or in project's tempo?

Many thanks.

You nailed it.  Just go the dropdown menus on the browser section and select "play at project tempo".  Otherwise they will play at their original tempo when browsing

Slightly related thought: as much as I appreciate all the fantastic plug-ins packaged free with Producer, I must say that I have yet to find a single useful loop that came in the standard bundle.  OK, I take that back: I found one fairly good world-music conga loop; otherwise, junk.

I don't use that many loops and there are other sources, but why did Cakewalk bother to clutter the disc with so many things that cannot be used?

I love Cakewalk and am not usually negative: just not sure what they were thinking on the loops which are mostly random notes in lo-fi recordings.

ProMusic is probably referring to his own loops, or maybe he is just way more creative and seeing smart ways to use the Cakewalk stuff that I am too dumb to get.  Or both.

I'm not sure how extensively you work with loops, but loop based producers tend to derive much more out of even humdrum loops than what is apparent on the surface. As far as loops go, the cakewalk ones range from meh to not bad with an occasional gem thrown in.  Not trying to speak for Cakewalk or pretend to know what their intent was, but i would guess that they figured non-loop producers would ignore them and loop artists would chop them up and mangle the hell out of them. For example, in drum and bass music, some of the most treasured loops are so-so as played in original recording, but the individual components (kicks, snares, hi-hats) often have a quality that is useful for that genre since the end product will be so chopped up and rearranged that the original artist is unlikely to recognize the original loop.
