Hi guys. Most of my stuff is done in midi using outboard sound modules - with a few VST's for good measure. So I'm not so good when it comes to audio stuff! However, I have a project with a female vocalist and we have both been impressed by the capabilities of Roland VP-7 and are thinking of using it. However, as this is an outboard audio FX box it would mean the recorded audio (using my firewire 410) being routed out of HS6 into the VP-7 and back in again - presumably on another track . Can I do this in HS6 without causing "digital feedback"? Since I have another interface ( an Emu 0404) sitting idle, I thought maybe I might need to keep the effected audio separate and use the Emu get the output of the VP-7 back into HS6. Am I on the right track here or am I getting into a "senior moment" muddle. They do happen occasionally!

If the vox box has audio outputs, plug the mic into the Roland and it's audio out to your interface.
Since what is recorded is recorded forever, and you may not want/like the entire vocal track to be effected through the whole song, you could also record a dry track using another mic into the audio interface on another track.

Hi Greg...thanks for the reply. The vox box has mic and line inputs plus l/r audio out - and a midi in of course. Thinking more along your lines, I could probably use two mics with the Firewire 410 and record a clean and effected audio at the same time. That way at least the singers inputs would be identical. I was hoping some of the experienced "audio" guys could help clarifying my puzzlement/confusion and suggest a solution using HS6 and the A/D interfaces as I also have an Akai and a Digitech Vocalist outboard modules which I'd like to try with some of my VST synths.

Tremor, I think what you have is just a routing issue that you can handle with your Firewire 410 easily. How would you normally get a mic into your computer? The track that the mic comes in to HS6 needs to get routed to a different output of your FW410 instead of to the master output. This would act like a "send". This output would then be connected to the vox box using the line input. The line output of the vox box would be connected to your 410 on another input.. and this audio would be sent to another track in HS6. The output of this track would be sent to the Master output. When you record, you would arm the 2nd track and record that, or you could also arm the first track and record the uneffected audio at the same time. I think that would work. BD

Bill...that was exactly the answer I was looking for! I guess my concern was going through the firewire 410 twice without causing a loop of some kind either within the 410 or the PC or the software, or incurring an excessive amount of latency by doing it. I could use the Emu to separate the two, but I guess any latency issue would remain. Sounds like I won't put anything into terminal failure anyway, so I'll give it a go! Thanks again
