I would never leave my mic set up. It is too easy to knock over or other unhappy accidents. Major studios can leave them set up, but around the house there are too many kids, pets, etc. etc. I just sent off my Oktava 319 to get it fixed after it dropped. My bad, but the adaptor on the bottom unscrewed from the mic, not the stand while I wasn't paying attention. Of course, that was breaking it down from a session, so maybe that example ain't the best.
But I was learned to power, plug and then phantom power mics.
