Re:IK Multimedia SampleMOOG at Esoundz - July 06, 12 7:36 AM ( #31 )

It sounds very good to me...as good as Arturia freebie...and far more flexible...

...
Interesting. Conventional wisdom would have it that a modeled VSTi like the Arturia would be the most flexible, and if accurately modeled would emulate the full range of the original instrument while a sample based instrument would be limited to the samples. Plus what ever controls are provided by the sample player.

Some of the recent stuff for Kontakt from HollowSun shows how sophisticated a sampled synthesizer can be, how ever I have yet to see a Kontakt synthesizer come close to the versatility of say, Minimonsta (my go to Moog emulation), Pentagon or Z3ta.
Bitflipper has declared "Sampled synths are an abomination". My view is not so scathing but I remain skeptical that a sample base synth can ever equal the versatility of a good emulation program.

This Sound on Sound review of Samplemoog strikes a chord with me. Quote:

the very nature of SampleMoog lends it the potential to thrill and frustrate in equal measure. Should the sampled representations not match your own sonic ideals, and if they resist attempts to manipulate them into submission, one of the alternatives may be more appropriate to your needs
May I should buy this while its $30 and be proved wrong?

Is SampleMoog that much different in sound compared to SonikSynth 2? Or will most of it be redundant?

I also have SonikSynth2 as well as the free Arturia Moog and I'm a bit on the fence whether I should get in on this deal (being such a great price etc...) or would the stuff I already have be enough (I'm also in the same mindset as Rain when it comes to Synths and tweaking them).

Sampled synths are less an abomination than modeled synths in my book, which includes about 90 % of all the vSTi's out there. At least you get a real analogue waveform as a basis. JMO all in all, but I think the SampleMoog does a very good job of threading that land between static sample and decent filter / LFO emulation needed for movement. Actually the one problem I have with Samplemoog is that there are a hell of a lot presets to go through to figure out which to tweak to taste.

Mesh, I went ahead and took the plunge and also referred you. There are a lot of great reviews for SampleMoog. 16 different synths represent this softsynth, including some that are post millennium. It also boast 32 different effects. Some of the sounds may be heard in SonicSynth 2 and perhaps even the Arturia Minimoog V Original but it's an entirely different beast and for $29.99 plus a FREE Sample Library if ordered at esoundz.com - this was a Krazy Deal I couldn't pass up. It's also a nice new shiny toy for $29.99

I think your last comment "shiny new toy for $29.99" is the selling point here....LOL. I do like a lot of IK's synths (Miroslav, SonikSynth, SampleTank etc...) and I imagine this won't be any different. I already got about 50GB of samples from the other 3, so what's another 7-8 more roight? It's time for a new eye exam anyway?

Thanks to both, you & Genghis for the referal.

This was also mentioned and highly recommended from Glyn's sound on sound review of IK Samplemoog: [free] Taurus (beta 4) Virtual recreation of famous bass pedals from 70's. Prepare for earth shattering bass!
Things modelled in beta 4:
  • Alias free oscillators
  • Finite oscillator reset time
  • Nonlinear Moog ladder filter
  • Nonlinear VCA
  • Nonlinear envelopes (that means solving five non-linear differential equations, realtime!)
  • And of course all the rest of control circuitry at component level
Sound examples:
  • Filter sweep
  • Multitracked pad
  • I rode the Taurus (by Alpharisc)
  • Axel F meets Taurus (by Ronny Pries)
  • Download here
  • Windows 7 64 bit, Sony Vaio Laptop Q740, 8 GB, Sonar Producer X1d, Focusrite Scarlett 18i, Korg Pa500, M-audio 61 Radium Keystation. Using Omnisphere, Trilian, Komplete 8, Morphestra, Orchestral Essentials, Evolve, Orange Tree Guitars, Addictive Drums, BFD2, Melodyne Editor, Studio One 2, Ozone 5, FabFilter.

And, if you own Omnisphere, you may want to consider this library of Moog inspired sounds:http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/tribute/

This library of Moog sounds was developed using highly creative processing techniques with exotic gear like rare Buchla Modulars, Jean Michel Jarre's EMS Synthi AKS, Hans Zimmer's massive Modular Moog (including 1027 round robin Moog Drum samples!) and even Eric Persing's one-of-a-kind OMG-1. With so many different world-class artists contributing, the library is very rich in style and filled with inspiring, cutting edge sounds!

100% of the proceeds from this library will go to supporting the innovative projects of the Bob Moog Foundation including their MoogLab student outreach program, the creation of the future 'Moogseum', and their efforts to preserve and share Dr. Moog's extensive and historic archives. The Foundation honors the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog through its mission of igniting creativity at the intersection of music, history, science and innovation.

Produced by Eric Persing, the new Bob Moog Tribute library features over 800 stunning new sounds for Omnisphere - created by more than 40 of the world's top synth artists, remixers and sound designers, including:  Hans Zimmer   |   Vince Clarke (Erasure/Depeche Mode)   |   Jean Michel Jarre   |   The Crystal Method   |   Jordan Rudess   |   Money Mark (Beastie Boys/Beck)
Bernie Worrell (P-Funk/Talking Heads)   |   Larry Fast (Peter Gabriel/Synergy)   |   Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Air/Fiona Apple)   |   Ryuichi Sakamoto (YMO)
Morgan Page (Madonna/Katy Perry)   |   Keith Shocklee (Bomb Squad/Public Enemy)   |   Steve Porcaro (Toto)   |   Fredwreck (Snoop Dogg/50 Cent)
Jan Hammer (Jeff Beck/Mahavishnu Orchestra)   |   Danny Elfman   |   Michael Boddicker (Michael Jackson)   |   Richard Devine (Schematic/Warp)
Patrick Moraz (Yes/Moody Blues)   |   Eddie Jobson (UK/Roxy Music)   |   Diego Stocco   |   The Moog Cookbook   |   ...and many more!

Did IK get banned?  Or what??

    He got dissed.

It was made very obvious that I wasn't welcome. So my superiors and I talked and decided to withdraw from these forums. I'm still lurking though because I still like the conversation here. Especially in the songs and  coffee house sections I have been frequenting since before starting at IK under different username.

That, to me, is VERY unfortunate.  First, why would they not welcome you here?  You have as much right to be here, to share your opinions, and to promote your firm, as anyone else does on this forum.  This is an OPEN forum, and if Cake feels that you are stealing their business or "dissing" THEIR product, then maybe they should address THEIR OWN ISSUES about it before "chastising" or "banning" you.

We are ALL (I hope) adults here.  We have the ability to make up our own minds, based on whatever info is provided.  I feel that to
make someone feel unwelcome because of who they work for is, on Cakes part, on anyone else's for that matter, a sure sign of insecurity
    and immaturity on their part.

Let's grow up people.  Stop the "Politic-ing" and get on with producing HIGH QUALITY products.  THEN let US decide what we like and don't like.
It's OUR DECISION - NOT YOURS!!!  AND....let everyone have their say...FREEDOM OF SPEECH.  You don't have to like it, or respond to it, or even READ it for that matter.  But don't make someone feel unwelcome because they are expressing their opinion.  I'm sure that the Cake people would
be welcome to do the same on the IK forum (I would hope).  We all should have the ability to "agree to disagree" and just get along and carry on.

So, IK Obi Wan Plugin Kenobi, you will be missed, but glad to know you're still lurking about...

I don't know the WHAT is that brought this about.  But from my experience with your posts, I think it's a "competitive" fear - and that, to me, is sad.
If the products you make "hold up" to critical scrutiny....then you have NOTHING to fear IMHO.

Well said.  Some posers here, especially one, were very rude and certainly not acting like adults.  I like IK reps here and it's a shame how he was treated.  One guy was seriously freaking out because he though it was spam.  Some people really need to get a grip.

    LOL. Who are ya!?

Flag up where I was rude to Obi, or get a grip.

This forum is outside the jurisdiction of IK's marketing supervisors.  There are as many dissing him as there are defending him here. It's quite simple he stops flouting the TOS in relation to advertising and I no longer have need to flag it up to the moderators of this board?

I enjoy his normal interaction and help toward existing customers that frequent this place but I choose to draw the line at blanket ads, simple as.  It has nothing to do with immaturity as displayed by a few here it has to do with speaking out against mindless spamming.  He only has to reign it in to comply with the TOS but he seems to be enjoying playing an innocent victim and making a fight out of it so he can carry on in contravention of the plain terms as written.

If I'd have been rude to Obi that would have been against the TOS also and there would have been plenty here that would have liked to lay that card on me had it been the case and I've have been out on my butt already.

It's also against the TOS to have dual login's another thing that Obi is claiming to have also although to be fair that just might be to make out he has some mystery presence here that participates like a normal member rather than a straight out marketing guy.

You and a few others here besides are elevating this thing into a personal issue bud, not me.  Check yourself.

I think you based that assumption on a very small select group of individuals who do not speak for the entire body of members here.

Well I reckon Reece baby you've been known to be a stickler for that ol' TOS and the plain terms therein your good self too...so who is this small select group of individuals here and are you now speaking for the entire body of members when you say this?

I'm just wondering who the heck else here has to consult with supervisors as to whether it is the 'correct' thing to do or do most of us frequent this place because we are users of qualified products.

Maybe you're saying I should be excluded from that entire body of membership because I don't like the idea of a company paid rep coming here and blanket advertising and make it known?

Actually what are you saying here?

I don't see much of a difference between someone touting a product and someone touting a product who works for the company who's product they're touting. I'm not even sure if " touting " isn't one of words that belongs in someone else s native language and I as an American have pilfered it's use with no regard to it's origins....and then there's that word " pilfered ".....same goes.

Frankly I'm far less bothered by it than it would seem to many.  But when someone feels the need to keep dragging it up and playing victim when I've not even mentioned the whole sorry affair for weeks now I'm just going to defend myself against the personal attacks.

I'd suggest Obi just goes about his business rather than playing to the divide to provoke a reaction in his favour.  I've said all I'm ever going to say on the spamming issue but if people wanna keep having a pop then I shall defend myself everytime.

If he really wants to move on he will do just that rather than keep trying to negotiate territory. You'll note that I'm crediting him with some intelligence here because if he doesn't realise that himself then I'm giving him far too much credit.  There are as many against his stance as there are for, most quite rightly don't give a hoot.  Just like anybody 'touting' nikes or iApp media converters if it looks like spam it will be reported as such whoever the poster that's what the abuse button is for.

It's all very simple really, I'm not out to get anyone.  But I see employees of other company's taking part here not abuse the hosts terms and I've seen plenty of users get shot down for advertising a little bit of personal kit and it does irk me to see IK having such a flagrant disregard for fair play. The difference between an enthusiastic recommendation of a fellow member and a one-sided marketing spiel from a company should be obvious to anyone.

Especially when it's likely those in defence of their stance are IK converts that don't want to hear any noise associated with someone they've done business with.

I'd much rather Obi apologised for the whole sorry disturbance caused on both sides of the fence toned it down a bit and just got on with it, but he doesn't seem to be that kind of guy.  Like I said I HAD finished with it weeks ago, and if y'all excuse me I've spent too much time inadvertently raising IK's profile myself now already and I ain't even getting paid.
