Global "Stop at Project End" ??
I've been thoroughly trained over many years by ProAudio9 and SHS7 that projects stop playing back at the end of the project. It seems to be the default in PA9 and there is a global option for it in SHS7. As far as I can see, in X1 Studio (of which I am a new user), the stop option is available only as a project option. Right? (Oh, I hope I'm wrong!) --Larry

I'll watch for the answer to this with interest. Sonar 6 used to stop playing once it came to the end of all the audio/MIDI tracks. My installation of X1 just keeps going and going. I thought I must have changed something somewhere... edit; Found it... in Track View, Options > Stop at Project End. This is directly from the Help file:- Stop at Project End option The Track view Options > Stop at Project End option determines whether or not playback is allowed beyond the last event in a project. This option is enabled by default. When enabled (default setting): ● Playback will not engage if there is no data present in the project at all. ● Playback will stop when no more data is present going forward. When disabled: ● Playback will engage if there is no data present in the project at all. ● Playback will continue past the end of a project until the user manually stops playback.

You could set this in your template so that all new projects inherit the setting.

stevec, I changed the "normal" template to have Stop set. New projects, as expected, have the stop set. But the surprise is that my old projects also have stop set now. That's a good surprise. synkrotron, Since the Stop option you mention (and I already knew about) is only visible if a project is open, and it is labeled "Stop at Project End", I was convinced that it applied only to the current project. And the option certainly was not enabled by default in my X1 Studio. In any case, it's working as I want it to now. --Larry

Well...... I tested a couple other settings that are available in the Track menu bar. It seems that they are global settings and affect all projects, new and old. I'm thinking that can't be right. Especially since the settings are not even visible unless a project is open. Knowing which settings are project specific and which are global seems fairly important to me. Especially if you want different projects to behave differently. --Larry

I agree with all you say Larry, regarding any preferences that are global should be in the new "Preferences" dialog box. And the Stop at Project End setting of "enabled" was not the default for my X1 install either. Hey ho... a minor gripe, and all is well for me at the moment, as far as X1 is concerned :^)

I'm not in front of SONAR at the moment, but I think the Preferences dialog includes a Project tab...? If so, that's where all the project-specific preferences should be located. Should be, that is.

stevec, On X1 Studio, the Preferences dialog is different depending on whether a project is currently open or not. If one is NOT open, then the Preferences do not have a project section. If a project is open then there is a project section with options that very well could be specific to the current project. Haven't tested that theory yet. I find it interesting, and confusing, that if no project is open then there is no way to see or control any project preferences. I'm used to seeing global preferences or options whether or not a project is currently open. --Larry

Not having project-specific preferences display when there is no project open makes sense to me. Those preferences only apply to the *active* project. That's why you'd open your template project and make project-specific changes there so that all new ones inherit those changes. Everything else must be global.
