Nope, none of the above (I have started a few threads already on this btw)

I am just ranting as I have lost total creativity AGAIN today.

Lots of people get Sonar APP crashes and then Sonar wont release the process no matter what you do, its a total creative killer.

TBH I am fecking sick to the back teeth of seeing new features in X1 and X2 and not enough work going on under the hood ESPECIALLY on a 64 bit platform. I have been using Cakewalk for about 15 years and I have to say since X1 I have had nothing but NIGHTMARES in crashes that dont have a trend or add up and I'm bloody sick of it.....

I love all the features and interface changes etc etc but whats the point of it all when it crashes randomly all the time?

Please dont make me defect to a Mac and the dreaded PT...Please.........

    Sorry for the rant guys.

I've had this a few times...

    The quickest solution is

    "Ctrl + Alt + Del"

Go to "processes"  and END "SonarPDR.exe"

You can then reload Sonar right away,...

For some reason, when Sonar "dumps" it doesn't leave memory...

nope. Doesnt work. Nor do the 3rd party "kill process apps". Nor does logging off and back on again. NOTHING works asides from a long wait or a reboot and a full force of creativity rendered useless.

The StackHash error happens any time DEP is found that there is an issue with the program run. The error is related to Data Execution Prevention. Here’s how 99 percent of Vista and Win7 users can fix a StackHash failure:
Click the run button and open the Control Panel
    1. Browse to the section of System Maintenance then to the System
    2. At the left side, select Advanced System Settings link
    3. In the System Properties Window the top section is named as Performance with the Settings button. Click this button.
    4. Choose the Data Execution Prevention tab.
    5. Select the option which reads Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
    6. Use the Browse button to locate the executable file for the application you were trying to start when you received the StackHash error, and click Open to add it to your exceptions list.
    7. Click Apply or OK to commit your changes.

I'll bet that your problem is due to your Delta 1010 driver. Sonar X1 on its own is not that crash happy. The symptom of not being able to close down X1 is associated with M Audio drivers. Has been for a long time.

i have zero evidence this will work, just a spidy-sense: (similar to the software-based DEP controls) if your bios supports hardware-based DEP, try disabling it. if it's already disabled, try enabling it.

I think my tickets to Cakewalk support make up my balance.

Have you retried restarting your soundcard?  This is the only thing that works for me (besides a full reboot as you had stated)

It's a known driver issue. M-audio and E-MU are two offenders.

My main system does it as I suffer with a MIDISport, which is the offender on my system. My laptop doesn't do it because I don't have those drivers on it.

    Oh wait.

    It is SONAR.

It's SONAR on *your* system that does it.
