Double-Clicking the .exe for X2 asks me what program to open with
What am I doing wrong? I double-click the install from Part 1, and Windows asks me what program I want to use to open it with. How do I get this to run the install? Sorry I am so stupid.

Try right clicking and "Run As Administrator".

Oh I think I know what's happening. You are probably try to run the Help Me file instead of the exe. That was the install directions. Right click and open with notepad or if it's a pdf use your pdf reader (Like adobe Reader). The SECOND part of the download is the installer. Here, check this out... http://www.cakewalk.com/s...tion_instructions.aspx There is a link at the bottom of that page that tells you what's what. Cheers.

Does an X2 icon appear for that file? Is it really an *.exe file? I recall having to rename the X1 installer by adding the EXE at the end. Try that and see if it helps.

For some reason the files aren't appending .exe to the end of them when I save them. Easy enough to fix, though, just right-click on each file, rename and add the .exe extension to the end of them. I hope that helps!

Thanks guys, but no luck so far. I am not trying to open the help file. I already read the install instructions. When I add the .exe to the file name, it still asks what program to use. Just for the heck of it, I told it to use SONAR X1 but then it fails...ha ha ha. I must be stuck on stupid. Imagine having the download complete and ready to go, but being unable to run it... I have become a typically impatient American...ha ha ha.

Did you guys download with Internet Explorer? I'm pushing a fix to the store to make sure IE doesn't rip the .exe extension. I'm sorry about that if you ran into it! If you add the .exe extension to the end it should fix that. Let us all know how you make out.

If you're in Windows Vista/7 you should be able to go to Organize > Folder and Search Options to bring up the Folder Options settings. This should be available from Windows Explorer. Go to the View tab and remove the check mark next to "Hide extensions for known file types". Afterwards, try renaming the files with the .exe extension.

You could just download them again using Firefox or get a download manager if you are stuck with IE. Why MS doesn't include a dl manager is beyond me. Terrible program. Edit: oops... guess you got it. Have fun.

I'm totally confused. I downloaded with IE9 and my four X2 parts and 3 Loops and One Shots files are named like this: 02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part1[1] 02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part2[1] etc. Am I supoosed to remove the extension shown i.e. '.part1[1]' etc. and replace with .exe? In which case how will it know the different parts? Or remove the dot, add exe and rename the file to '02_SONAR_X2_Producerpart1[1].exe ?????' Edit: And the file '05_SONAR_X2_Producer_Additional_Content' which has no extension I just add .exe?

The latter, but I also removed the numbers in paranthesis as well, so the file names match what are listed on the DL page. For example I changed "02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part1[1]" to "02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part1.exe". edit: the easiest way is just compare the files names you have downloaded to what they are listed as from the cakewalk download page. They should be the same thing. Hope that helps.

As adeptus minor suggested, you can always re-name the files as listed on the other page. Huh. I'm dling with FF and my exe's are stripped out too but when I right click it's giving me the "Run" options so I'm assuming it'll work. I'm not installing today anyway so I'll just see what happens with everyone else. BTW my first file (aside from the install instructions and the read me) is displayed like this 02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part1 There are no extra numbers in brackets.

Were the .exe's actually stripped out, or do you have extensions hidden? You might confuse the two. A good indicator of that is what the icon looks like. If it has an X2 logo, you're probably all set. If it's a blank white icon that can't launch, it was probably stripped out. In the Windows Control Panel, under Folder Options, on the View Tab there are settings for hiding and showing extensions for known file types. Being the nerd that I am, every time I reformat my computer this is usually one of the first settings I personally change.

Yup. I have the icons. Thanks, Ryan. I probably wouldn't have even noticed without this thread but it's good to have the doubt removed. If something is gonna go wrong it will usually go wrong with me so I'm ever vigilant scouring around for potential pitfalls. This is one of the things that is great about Cake... between the forum and all the official resources I've never been lost. ;-)

If this is covered in the install instructions, please don't bother to repeat anything, however. Is the Dim Pro expansion the new strings library that many of us downloaded in advance? For that matter, if we're already running the full X1 (pro, expanded), what of the above do we actually need to install. Is there anything in the additional content, for example, that we don't already have?

@dmbauer... At the bottom of this page there is a breakdown of what the different downloads are. http://www.cakewalk.com/s...tion_instructions.aspx The DSF Strings is not included (it's separated from these downloads in your account). The rest I can't help with but if you have Dim Pro I don't think there is anything new there but the extra Dim Pro content might have some new stuff. Rapture is the full version (as opposed to the lite version) so that's new. There was mention of some new one shots in the promo material so those packs probably have new goodies.

To clarify: 04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe 04_Dimension_Pro_1.5_Expansion_Packs.zip These are the same installers as with X1. Dimension Pro did not get any updates this time around, so we did not re-write the installers. If you already have it installed, there really is nothing gained by downloading and installing again. The Expansion Pack installer is not the DSF Symphonic Strings installer (that's a separate exclusive offer so it was left out of the instructions). The Expansion Packs installer linked above is ultimately a re-write of this http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013208 plus some additional content on top of that. It's the same installer as the one included with X1. So I guess ultimately, if you upgraded from X1 to X2 and already have Dimension Pro installed, there's nothing to gain by downloading/installing it again. If you upgrade from SONAR 8/8.5 to SONAR X2 on the other hand, then the installers linked above are the latest version with the content repackaged as .flac etc.

No extra Dim Pro samples in those? Good to know. I'll leave Dim Pro alone. Everything else (like the loops and one shots) has new content though, right? Oh and it looks I screwed up my last post. I scrolled down and see the DSF package now in the X2 downloads. I was looking at the link I posted above. Not my actual download page. Cheers.

Had my first crash in X2 today. While playing a project I wanted to reset a bus level to 0 by doing a double click on the level bar in TV. SONAH went all crash in the loudspekah. I will try to reproduce on demand so that I can do a vid of the event.
FYI: I have Aero turned on.
