Quad Capture on Win 8?

Hi,

Will the current Win7 drivers of the Quad Capture work on a Win8 DAW?

Or should we wait for Roland to release Win8 drivers....

Thanks.

    Hi
From what I can tell by their response to me on drivers for Windows 8, Roland likely won't support it at least until it comes out officially in late October.  Waiting is probably best.

However...  I have a Roland UA-1G and found their driver has a specific exclusion for Windows 8 even though it technically works.  I am a Windows developer by day and so have what's needed to get around this specific issue.  Basically I edited the driver's INF file and then re-signed the driver and forced Win8 to accept it.  It works great now but this is not a simple task and not one I would recommend.  If you just edit the INF file, Windows 8 will not allow it because it checks the signature to ensure none of the files have been tampered with.

If you are comfortable with opening files in notepad, look at the INF in their driver install and see if have anything similar to the snippets from my INF file below.  If you want, you can post the INF here (its just a text file) and I can take a look at it.  I can at least tell you if it will not work for sure.  I cannot say that it will work for sure however.

This is what was in my UA-1G INF file.  Windows 6.1 is Windows 7 and Windows 6.2 ( "NTamd64.6.2" ) is Win8 and it was deliberately set to not work.

    [Roland.NTamd64.6.1]
    ;; Windows7
    %RDID0098DeviceDesc%=RDID0098Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00E9 ; UA-1G

    [Roland.NTamd64.6.2]
    ;; not supported

I  updated the INF and then re-signed the drivers.  I also had to set Win8 to allow drivers signed by me.  This works and I will replace it with Roland version if/when they come out with a driver.  Here is what it looks like now.

    [Roland.NTamd64.6.1]
    ;; Windows7
    %RDID0098DeviceDesc%=RDID0098Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00E9 ; UA-1G

    [Roland.NTamd64.6.2]
    ;; Windows8
    %RDID0098DeviceDesc%=RDID0098Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00E9 ; UA-1G

btw: There is one other way to make this work but you have to reboot in a special way every time you want to use the drivers.  I can provide info on how to do this if you want.  You will not have to sign anything so its simpler but inconvenient.  Just let me know.

Hopefully this all makes sense :)
