Tip and comment.

There is as you know auto zoom in X2. Did you also know that there is a global zoom for tracks? The way it works is adjust the height of an unselected track and all the tracks will follow. This is sweet.

For auto zoom you engage it by clicking on the view menu and checking the selection for it. Then all you do is select a track then adjust it height.  Now when you select any track it will pop up to that size.

    Yes, I knew that. FYI

here is a hot tip dating backing many versions- X ray vision: shift-x on a vst turns it into a translucent vst that can be recalled again by shift-x, a great tool for those with one screen.

Ah but did you see how elegant that is. You set the general height than select your zoom height. Kinda neat me thinks.

Yep, it's very cool John, but alas X2 is crashing for me. I think I have been gung ho with so many easy upgrades in the past and no "issues". Now I have gunk on my system and X2 is crashing. I'm going to be an early Win8 adopter methinks..., can't get any worse...

I'm quite linking the auto track zoom - though I'm a bit perplexed why Folders don't auto unzoom & need to be manually resized up & down using the splitter bar. Since the only additional info shown on the folder is the track type counts maybe those should be moved to the top "line" of the folder display & they could stay unzoomed.

Also, with autozoom turned on, once you select on a bus & it zooms there's no way to not have a bus selected/zoomed so you end up with a permanently zoomed bus stealing screen space.

Then again, these may be things associated with using XP (please, no lectures ).

Yes that is part of autozoom. Individual non focus tracks aren't resizeable as such but the non-focused track height is, as is the in focus track height. Very handy especially as it is a per screenset setting.

COOL! Never knew that. This works great... at least until you dock it in multidock. Understandable it doesn't work there. However, if you un-dock and free float it, the shift-X doesn't work any more. You have to close it out and reopen it for it to work again. Hmmm!

Actually, how do we maximise a track now? In X1 you just double click the header of the track, but that doesn't seem to work any more. Am I clicking the wrong spot? Shortcut?

It works the same but not while autozoom is active - Shift + Z switches that on/off.

Auto-zoom is great. The global zoom is ok but my peeve is that it operates on the Folder strips at the same time as the tracks. I would prefer to have the tracks expand/contract as they do but leaving the Folder strips as is and independent - how often do you consult the information in an expanded Folder strip?

I fully agree with you. But I guess it could be useful to think of auto zoom as a dynamic process. One that you don't set and leave alone.

    Just a thought.

Yep it's great and better still now view undo remembers screenset changes as well I can use it as a quick change between two screensets.

Nothing startling so far. I like that I can now see all screenset numbers, I'd still like a lock indicator on the module though.

The changes are maybe even snappier, they seem instant now, not that they were slow before.

I like autozoom being screenset dependent that has made a couple of the ones I use more dynamic in that I no longer have to change the height of any added tracks.

    Mine are still evolving.....

I've just posted this in another thread but for the control bar.... is that a quick(er) way to move a module on screen if selected but off-screen is to deselect and then reselect it.

It'll then replace the last visible module. I'm not sure whether that's by design or not but handy all the same.

One other added benefit of the new auto zoom is a very obvious way to hi-light a selected track using a CS.

    .....
Instead of having to use a dropdown menu to lock/unlock a screenset, I would like to be able to right-click on the current screenset number button as a lock/unlock toggle, with different colours for the locked and unlocked states.

That'd work. I have lock/unlock assigned as a keypress but I'm guessing as to the state, a button colour option would work great.

I'm off to feature request.. I've already got one in for it but the colour idea is a real neat and hopefully easy..ish to do. Thanks.

I wouldn't cry if the Cake folks got rid of the extra info in the track folders and just froze them at minimized height for all time. There just isn't anything useful about having them take up space every time I open a project last saved in an older version of Sonar.

Either that or add something useful to the track folder space. Maybe volume/pan/gain/sends controls that I can grab that act just like Quick Grouping all tracks in that folder? It would be cool to easily tweak all Drum volumes down at the track level this way without having to quick group.

    Peace,

    Tunes
