howdy y'all -

I wanted to check in here before filing a problem report.... I just made the jump from 8.3.1 to X2, so forgive me if this is a known issue already.

1. Insert a MIDI track and open staff view.

2. Input a note below the staff (doesn't matter which clef you're in), for example, the C one ledger line down from the staff in treble clef.

3. Right-clicking on the note *should* bring up the Note Properties dialog, but brings up the staff view context menu instead.

4. Now insert a second note lower than the initial note, for example, the A below the C from step 2.

5. Right-clicking on the C now gives you the Note Properties dialog as it should, but right-clicking on the A will ONLY bring up the staff view context menu.

So, what I'm seeing anyway, is once you're below the staff, right-clicking the lowest note displayed will not allow you to see its Note Properties dialog. By no means is this a huge problem (I think I'm among the few here who use the staff view extensively for programming), but I was curious if anyone else is seeing this too.

FWIW, beyond this and some getting used to the differences between X2 and 8.3.1, X2 has been very solid so far. I've had one other issue, but I need to do some more poking to see whether its in fact a bug or just my thick head not coming to terms with some of the changes to editing.... ;-)

Hi Conrad I have just checked this and I can not reproduce your problem unless I have selected to use the EDIT tool i.e. the spanner.

Looks like another case of "Oh why is the SMART tool not so smart "

In X2 Producer -
When I RIGHT click the CENTER of the head of an eighth note below the staff (I'm working with the treble staff and the note I'm working on is D5), here are my tools and results: Smart Tool - the "Layout" menu
Select Tool - the "Layout" menu
Move Tool - the Note Properties menu
Edit Tool - the Note Properties menu
Draw Tool - the "Layout" menu
Erase Tool - the "Layout" menu

(Now... as I've been doing this, I've noticed that I can get different results with the ERASE TOOL depending on exactly where I click on the note. If I click higher on the head, I can get the Note Properties menu, but about center and below gives me the "Layout" menu.)

If I go to a note ON the staff - like bottom line E in the treble clef (E5), each Tool's Right Click gives me the expected Note Properties Menu.

THIS IS A DEFINITE BUG. (Pardon my shouting... I prefer entering notes in Sonar rather than those colored rectangles in the PRV and this is VERY frustrating behavior... particularly since I've only been using this new and improved version for about 15 minutes now!)

Is there a better place to post bugs like this?
