Re:iZotope Stutter configuration.
Hello Sonar Users, I saw this in an old thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?&m=2197722&mpage=1 I'm finishing up with a complete re-install and getting all my plugins up and running in Sonar X2. I'm trying to get my Stutter Edit working again. I love it and can't seem to get it to show up in the Instrument Browser. I've configured the vst as an instrument in the Plugin Manager. It shows up in the Instruments List in the Plugin Manager, but, it's still showing up in the FX browser in Sonar X2. I compared the settings to other Vst instruments in the PM and set them accordingly. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi Curtsong; I was a bit confused by this myself, but, I found something that works for me: following up from the steps you mentioned, add Stutter Edit as an effect in the FX bin of the track/bus you want to 'stutter' under the Soft Synths drop-down, add a new midi track, send its output to Stutter Edit (it'll show up in the drop-down), done! Now you can record your effects to any number of new midi tracks, or draw them in with the PRV. Remember you'll only be able to hear the events taking place during playback, though. You can make a note of which keys activate which effects during playback and draw them in, however (which is what I do, as I don't trust myself to be in sync enough to record them in real time, as this can be tricky if for example you're adding effects to a loop made up of different instruments: a tiny fraction of a second too late or early and you'll 'stutter' the wrong part). Lastly, be careful of overlapping when using more than one midi track! Hope this helps.

It doesn't show up in my softsynth drop down menu. Now what do I do? I even sent a ticket to cake and they told me it should be there but, It is not. very disappointed.

Have you tried uninstalling everything & reinstalling just the 64bit version? Could be a clash if you installed both 32 and 64bit versions... Try doing that (unless you have already, in which case, I'm sorry to say I'm stumped), re-scanning VST folders, re-assigning Stutter Edit as VSTi instrument in the Plugin Manager, rebooting your computer, trying the steps I mentioned previously, and see if that works? I had to give it 2 or 3 tries (without necessarily doing anything drastically different each time) and it just 'magically' started working, by happy coincidence...

I've spent 3 weeks with a re-install on my computer from Win7 to all my software and plugins. I'm really not up for more re-installs. I've re-installed SonarX2 3 times with this re-install. I'd like to see Stutter Edit working like they recommend. I've set the parameters as instructed in the plugin manager. I remember doing this before when everything was running fine. It shows up in the plugin manager just fine as an instrument. Yet it is still visible in the browser only as an fx not an Vst instrument.

Why would you re-install X2 three times? If your installs are corrupt, then your memory is bad, or isn't set right in the BIOS.

Don't go through the painful process of re-installing all kinds of stuff, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what's happening. Make absolutely sure you're not scanning both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Stutter Edit. If you do this, there's some crosstalk between the settings due to the plug-ins having the same CLSID. It's a complicated topic and one that we're looking to have fixed in the forthcoming update. (It's also relatively unique to Stutter Edit due to how it names its .dll files). Anyhow, try removing the 32-bit scan path to Stutter Edit (if there is one) and then scanning again. The point is to only be scanning the 64-bit version. Afterwards, try configuring as instructed by iZotope's document. If that doesn't do the trick, you might have to take some more specific steps (be very careful though as it involves the registry). Here's what I recommend: 1) Open the registry editor by going to the Run prompt and typing in: regedit 2) Remove all references of Stutter Edit under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory and KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST\Inventory 3) You may have 4 entries under this path. If so remove them all. (Note that you can also just rename them) 4) Afterwards, make a point to exclude the 32-bit version of Stutter Edit from your VST Scan Paths 5) Re-scan your plug-ins 6) Added Stutter Edit as an Audio Effect and then go to the VST Plug-in Properties and Configure it as a Synth 7) You may need to completely close and re-open SONAR for this to take affect (we're looking at having this fixed as well) 8) Try inserting Stutter Edit as a "Soft Synth" to the FX bin of an audio track now Hopefully at this point the settings should stick. Let us know if you make any progress! Best regards,

when i set guitar rig 4 to softsynth mode in x2 i did a vst rescan and it moved to the softsynth in the plugin manager. when i tried to add it in the fx bin it wasn't in either the effects or softsynths sections of the menu tree. simple solution was to open plugin manager and scan vsts again. then it showed up. go figure.

Whoops, sorry, I didn't mean re-install EVERYTHING everything; I meant uninstall all instances of Stutter Edit and reinstall just the 64bit version. I also followed Ryan's steps (from a previous post) to get mine working and, after a couple of tries, it definitely worked. As well as doing what swamptooth suggested.

The problem with plugin manager settings not sticking when you had multiple versions of plugins (32/64) has been fixed for the next update.
