Display Issues and Now Time Marker Disappearing

Hi,
I am having some problems with X2a that I already reported to support and want to see if anyone else is experiencing similar issues. At the bottom will be my systems configuration.

The now time marker is randomly disappearing on me and the only way it will come back is if I close and reopen the project. It disappears at random and I cannot recreate it. When I called support they told me it was a known issue they were working on and if I double clicked the border between the track view and the inspector view it should return - but it doesn't. In fact, once the now time marker disappears, hovering the mouse over the border between the track and inspector views no longer displays the double sided arrow. Not completely sure if this is a known issue or not because the second time I called the person wasn't aware of this "fix". This issue is killing me.

Another strange issue I am having is when in the PRV. If I move the mouse across the PRV, with aim assist tracking along with the mouse, the display of each of the MIDI notes get corrupted as the aim assist bar passes over them. This does not happen if aim assist is turned off. This issue is more of an annoyance and doesn't interrupt workflow.

General and display settings have been validated by support and I have the latest video driver for my card installed which was released last month. System does not have any other display issues that I have run into.

Thanks for any comments or assistance,

Rick

Hey Rick,

I've had the disappearing now time marker too but it hasnt happened to me since the X2a update (touch wood!) I guess the fact that support know about it is good news as one would expect a fix is being looked at. As for your prv display issue I havent seen that on any of my projects yet.

Thanks Millzy hopefully this can be sorted out soon I've done just about everything but swap out hardware. I don't know if this would have happened on X2 since I went directly from 8.5.3 to X2a. I opened X2 for a moment to look at it after the install but applied X2a soon after without opening any projects.

Glad to hear X2a resolved the disappearing now time marker for you. Fortunately I have other DAW systems I can continue working with - I've learned to be prepared ;)

A bump before this gets sucked into the black hole - any recommendations for resolving the occassionaly gone missing Now Time Marker, and PRV display weirdness? I have a ticket opened with Cakewalk but they haven't been able to provide any solutions. I built this PC for Sonar, and don't see any components that should be that unique or cheap enough to contribute to this. I have all the latest drivers installed for everything, and tried previous drivers. X2a is the only app i have that is experiencing these weird display issues.

Thank you

You're not alone with display issues. I have the opposite problem, when I scrub I get hundreds of now time cursors. I'm sure Cakewalk knows about these issues since Sonar does a complete redisplay when you let go of the mouse. That's the easy way to fix display bugs.

There are different ways of moving a cursor around without disturbing what's underneath. Usually you turn it off, move it, turn it back on. Sounds like yours is getting stuck in the off state. And mine aren't being turned off before being moved.

I doubt the problem has anything to do with your graphics card, or you'd be having problems in other programs. Let's look forward to X2b.

Not a fix but I find that if you press 'I' twice to close and open the inspector the timeline comes back every time.

When I created this thread I wasn't sure if I should separate the issues (Disappearing Now Time Marker and Display Issues) but decided to keep them together since I think they are related. Others have commented that this could be related to the refresh of the screen and to me that makes some sense.

Hi Paul P - when I disable aim assist, I do not experience any midi note display corruption in the PRV. Does disabling aim assist help you at all? Could you please tell me what video card you are using?

Thanks scook good information to add I hope that it can provide some resolution for others experiencing similar issues

I'll give that a try Shambler! I can't reproduce it but will report on that when/if it happens again.

Thanks for the responses and keeping this on topic.

Odd bump rcklln :)

But it caught my eye as this just happened to me again a few days ago!  Since it's so random and I cannot reproduce it, there is no sense for me to contact support on this one.  I guess I'll try the inspector trick next time.

I saw some replys from Cakewalk today and figured I'd try to get in on it ;)

Toggling the Inspector (I) doesn't restore it for me - have to save, close and reopen - hope it works for you.

Pretty sure I also tried all the toggle this n that tricks, but it did not return until I closed and re-opened Sonar.  Except last time it crashed about 10 minutes after disappearing, so it was:  kill Sonar.exe and restart Sonar.

arrrrg!!! this absolutely kills me. I have seen other bugs in past versions and have been able to work around them without getting too riled up but there is something about the everpresent now time marker disappearing that gives a real feeling of instability. Its just one of those things that has to be there.

Come on Cake at least do a patch or X2b for this pleaaase.

I agree, it's a doozie.  But I don't think it would taken seriously in a bug report, without steps to reproduce, and/or related events/errors.  I've had a lot more bugs like this, that occur at random, but with no solid evidence to give to support.  An issues forum would allow this type of bug to be corroborated, noticed, and given a number.

Surely by now you understand that X2a was the final update for X2, right?
What is your purpose in bumping this thread?

I come here to try to find solutions to problems I can't resolve myself but not to explain myself to you. There is no point in posting in this thread unless you have something helpful to add.

Sorry about that.  I am in your boat, but I think your bump needed clarification.  Otherwise it looks like "yet another X2b thread."  The now time marker disappearance is one of several bugs that made it incredible for Cakewalk to abandon X2 so prematurely.  But that is where we are.

I would suggest that the title be modified to indicate this is a SONAR X2 thread. If someone is trying to determine if this is addressed in X3, it might be a good idea to create a new thread. If someone is trying to determine a solution for X2, the title change would be helpful. Good luck either way.
