3 db louder / quieter
Recently got X2 and not really happy with it. Locks up and gives a message about no audio when exporting. have to do it several times to get it to work. Probably a bug among many. But my real question is, where is the 3 db louder / 3 db quieter option I had in the process tab for Sonar 4 home studio. You could click on a track or isolate a section of the track and use this very nice feature to give a boost or reduction. I don't see this most used feature. If not there, what do you do to boost a track or section of an audio track ? Thanks cromano

X2 is a huge leap from Sonar 4. To answer your question: process -> applt effect -> gain -> then you can choose from the drop down preset list or tweek on your own. Rocky

what do you do to boost a track or section of an audio track Volume automation. Stick an envelope on the track and raise/lower it all you want. bluzdog's method will work but any sort of process > apply effect is destructive, meaning it will overwrite your original track.

cromano Probably a bug among many. A bit of a leap there Chris. I would suggest it is a workflow issue - you have gone several SONAR generations in a single update and it will take some time (and patience) to make the transition. There has been a lot made of SONAR's "bugs" - I haven't found many that really affect its workability. There always seems to be a way to do what you need/want to do. You've been around Cakewalk for a while - so I am sure you are aware of the various X2 resources, (videos) etc that are available. Some excellent tools and great people on these forums who can help you out with specific questions/problems.

If you get a "No audio" message, the most likely reason is you haven't selected audio. Are you talking about Simple Instruments Track? Are you sure about your selection method? When you jump 10 years forward in one go, don't expect things to be the same. I'm sure there are many things in X-series you need study almost from scratch, that's what the ones who upgraded from SONAR 8 had to do. I assume you're using X2a, not X2? If not, do update.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Cromano, There are a lot of great rescources to out there to get you caught up to the latest version of Sonar. The learning Curve going from Versions 1- 8.5 to X1 & X2 is pretty big. I hope you get it sorted out and welcome to the forum. Rocky

Oops!!! I've never owned any version of Home Studio. Still, the learning curve applies and that's where he can find what he was looking for in X2 ( 3 db louder / 3 db quieter option ). Rocky

it could also be related to the selected Pan Laws. Remember there was a long standing issue that was.finally fixed in X1 wasn't it?

thanks everyone. Some time ago I ordered the 'SONAR X2 POWER!/ the Comprehensive Guide' by Scott Garrigus and i just got it last night. The 3 db issue was resolved in about 10 min. There are several ways to do it which yield somewhat different results. Bottom line, there are more options to achieve this and the option you choose will depend on what outcome you desire. Very cool. Thanks Cakewalk. The export is a problem. I know that if no audio is selected it won't work. I learned that from HS4. I'll keep working at it. Probability is that it's the USER (me) fault. It general is. Yes X2 is a leap up from HS4 and that is why I got the book. Great reference. But I like to play with it first to get familiar with some of the layouts and see differences. Now I can dive into the new features. P.S.: I've just started using ALLOY2 on the tracks and really like it. Of course the best plug-in that I ever used is OZONE for mastering. Just got the OZONE 5 and love it. If you are looking for a mastering software, you can't go wrong with OZONE. Thanks again

I have the same problem (and I'm coming from Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, an even bigger jump -finding this new version almost impossible to work with!). I don't see anything about "Gain" under "Process Effect". Have just ordered Scott Garrigus's book, hope it'll help me.
