Track muted - mute button off

I had a track that wouldn't play . . . it was there it just wouldn't play. I ended up sending it to a bus and could play the track through the bus. I did notice that the mute was off BUT in the bottom right corner of the button there was a small yellow square obviously indicating something that I am unaware of. What the heck was it??? I eventually ended up copying and pasting to a new track - workaround but not a resolution. . . Any thoughts?

Yellow indicates there's a mute somewhere in the signal path.

Little colored squares indicate grouping. But they are in the top left corner of my buttons in S4PE...
