CD TEXT....HOW...??? - January 25, 05 2:56 PM ( #1 )
hey i made some burns with NERO....
and when burning an audio CD there is TEXT write option....
(asuming you have a CD BURNER capable of burn text..)

when i play the CDR on the pc for example with WINDOWS media player
i never see the text...

How did you see the TEXT you burn on an audio cd...
or what is the purpose of the TEXT on the CDR.

CD TEXT is a redbook standard for adding Artist/album/song info to standard audio CDs - a sort of limited ID3 tag standard for audio CDs.

It has never caught on for reasons beyond explanation.

Some burning programs support burning CDs with CD TEXT, some don't. Precious few CD players display CD text if it's there at all.

Both my wife's and my car happen to read and display CD text and it's always a small delight when I see the info scroll across there. I think the last commercial CD I bought that had CD TEXT was Jeff Beck - "Jeff".

BC:

How much do you know about the RedBood standard and how the industry is using it? I have a home studio which I'm planning to expand into a more commercial use. I think I'm about ready as far as most techniques of recording and mastering, with the exception that I'm not sure what I need to master my CD's according to industry standards (for distribution). I'm pretty sure I need to get the text stuff on the disk (I think it's called PQ Coding). From what I've found so far on the internet, that includes such things as: track info, photos, ISRC, etc.

Do you know how it's done in the industry?

Cd Architect < http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/Products/ShowProduct.asp?PID=780 > is supposed to be good for that.

I just got mine recently... haven't tried it yet.
(If you're a student/teacher you can get it for around 1/2 price)

CD Architect 5.0 is a great redbook compliant CD burning app. I use it to burn all of my CD's. FYI, once Sound Forge 8 (which will now include CDA) is released, in March/April timeframe, all registered CDA 5 users will be eligible for a free update to CDA 5.2, which will include among other things, CD Text support

I'm having the same issue. I'm using Nero. It gives me a selection to burn cd text, I have it checked, but when I play it in Windows Media Player, it just says "Track 1", "Track 2", etc. Is there a way to assosiate a file with it so I can see the names of the tracks when in the player?

Search for ID3 tag editor software. Too many options to list...

Like I said... ID3 tags.

They're encoded in the MP3 file itself, are completely independant of the file name, and require an editor program to modify, most of which are freeware.
