midi output

Hi
I have a P4, 1Gb ram, 120 Gb storage, integrated sound, W2k

After a recent install of HS 2004, I see that I have no midi outputs

Where can I get one? Are they readily available for download or is this another program that has to be installed. There does not appear to be any midi outputs on the HS2004 CD

Thanks
Krilson

is this a laptop? desktop? Have you configured your MIDI ports? Does it have a midi port? If not you can get a USB based midi device or a PCI based MIDI device, after installing that device (drivers) the device will be exposed to cakewalk and you can select MIDI INs AND MIDI OUTs.

    Mr. Code

Thank you very much for your reply.

    What are you talking about?

I'm looking for a soft synth

    Thanks again

HS comes with a couple of soft synths such as the VSC. (It's under Insert - DXi submenu). There are also sounds you can used for this synth, these sounds are in GM arrangement and has two different synth engines: GM and GS. IMO the GS is better in sound quality but all in all is far away from what the new available soft synths can do out there. There is also a free soundfont player if you're interested in soundfonts: sfz, but comes without any sounds and you'll have to search the web to use them, some of them are free as well. There is also high-end quality soft synths and samplers such as Kontakt, Vsampler, Sampletank, etc for your reference as well.
BTW: To use soft synth you do not need to assign a midi output in HS so if you have a soft one to use, don't worry about it.

effects greyed out 2007/05/06 14:08:26 (permalink)
I'm using HS2004 with latest service patch
Ever since I installed this program, all of my midi and audio effects have been greyed out in the pull down menus. Since I've been doing nothing that requires these until now. I kinda wanna find out why all this functionality is missing. Any help?

    Thanks Krilson
