How to control Wah parameter on WahWah Effect?
I've been trying to figure out how to use an MK-449C keyboard with a bunch of assignable controllers to control the Wah parameter on my Sonitus WahWah effect. I have no trouble using Record Automation to record the movement of the Wah setting with the mouse, but how do I get a controller on my keyboard to control Wah? Right-clicking on the Wah knob does nothing, rather than let me choose a controller it should listen to. Help! and Many thanks!! -spinLock

I'm not at my DAW right now, but GENERALLY, you can use auotmation (not remote control, that's different, though it can be used too); and choose the parameter for the FX you want to automate, then create the nodes to control it. OR, you can probably use remote control and use MIDI LEARN. Check the manual - it's in there somewhere. Thanks for the reply, but honest, it isn't "in there". Or rather, what is in there doesn't work on this particular effect. We're really talking remote control here, and I can get it to work for most anything in the track view, and DXi synths too, but not the Wah parameter. This is the problem I'm trying to solve. Suggestions greatfully accepted! -spinLock

Well, I know you can do this for sure: Put the effect in the FX bin of the AUDIO track (where it should go anyway). Then RIGHT click on the Effect (Sontius Wah in this case), and choose "ARM parameter" It will bring up a dialogue box, check the "WAH" box. Now you can automate it. Thanks for that, and I agree, I can do "that". But that's not my objective - I want to control the Wah slider from a controller on my MK-449. It's remote control I'm having the problem with. Any ideas?

Hi Yeah, I read your question and spent some time on it this morning. I don't think you can do that - control it from a midi keyboard that is .................. I'm taking it that you mean a sort of "midi learn" idea which matches the wah to a rotary on your keyboard. The closest I got was to click on the wah button which arms it for a mouse wheel - so you can "wah" with it: which, to me anyway, felt a good deal better than trying to move it with just the movement of the whole mouse itself. Truly: if anyone knows how to implement "midi learn" on this effect let us know. Regards Graham

Hi Graham, Many thanks for giving it a shot - I'm new with this, and it's also good to know I'm not insane ;-) That's pretty neat with the mouse wheel - never would have thought of that. Thanks! -spinLock

can't it be set to be controlled by the modulation wheel on the keyboard? that seems the logical choice... Jerry

'till then ask Bob from Cakewalk or maybe someone else would kindly post here.. there are also some old threads about vst automation in Sonar ... the Search might find some of those cya

I had no trouble controling the wa control with my Keystation pro 88. I setup the wa wa and hit the FX button for Fx automation. Used remote control and reasigned the first stripe for the wa control. Use MIDI learn and it worked. I used a fader on the KS Pro 88 as the control. It took me 2 sec. to do this. Best John

Exactly for synths - the SynthRack should be fixed(even if it would take a complete re-write of the automation and the interface) http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/tm.asp?m=100427&mpage=1&key=vst+automation𘢉

I'm a little confused here - John are you saying it *can* be done in Sonar 4 PE? I don't see an 'Fx' button anywhere. Are you using something else maybe? Thanks,

If you are looking at the track view, at the bottom of the inspector there are 4 buttons. One is FX. Double click on it and it will list 4 prameters to control in the inspector of a plugin in the FX bin. Right clicking on any one will bring up a menu. I think you can take it from there. To see the inspector click on the first button at the top of the track list. for synths - the SynthRack should be fixed(even if it would take a complete re-write of the automation and the interface) I agree. I must be doing something stupid John, because double-clicking on the FX tab in the bottom left of the Track View does nothing. A single click changes the display of all the tracks, but a double-click does nothing. Would there be any other way of getting to the next diaglog box? Many thanks!

NOT the TABS the BUTTONS for the INSPECTOR. You do have Ver 3 or 4 of Sonar? Best John

You do have Ver 3 or 4 of Sonar? it's not a matter of ver. 3 or 4 - the Studio version of these doesn't have those assignable "midi widgets" ( those 4 stripes that you mentioned) it's a feature of the Producer version and existed there since version 3 (or even before that?)

Take a look at the attached jpeg. Notice the bottom left, you see a few icons, one being FX. That's the one he means. You need to click that a few times to get to the parameters - and once you do, you can change which ones to control, as you'll see in this shot: http://www.ba-midi.com/stuff/wah.jpg Right click on the parameter you want to change/reassign (that brings up the menu you see in that pic).

Indeed it is! I can't thank all you guys enough! The missing link here was that I had hidden the Inspector. Un-hiding that, all the suggestions, and finally the picture finished the job. Again, thanks to everyone!! Also, my apologies for not specifying Sonar version (4.02 PE) in my initial request - I've since added it to my sig & profile. Best,
