transport buttons freeze up progrm

After loading a file the play button works just fine, hit stop,and the program freezes can free it up with task manager but will refreeze next time a transport button is pressed.
Have reloaded prog severlal times no change
Have chequed IRQs in device manager nothing is sharing the same number and pane says no conflict

Can anyone help I'm using windows XP home edition

    What soundcard and what driver mode are you using? Make sure you've downloaded the latest drivers for the soundcard. Go to Options-Audio-Advanced and select WDM.

    I'm using sound blaster live and tryed WDM and MNE in audio options still no go.
    How do I make sure I've downloaded the drivers for the sound card ?

    I have a similar problem.

    When saving, playing and then stopping and many other functions the cursor freezes up and I have to just wait literally minutes for the system to return. I am running a 3Ghz AMD with 1.5 Gig ram, so I should never experience any delay. I am using a built in Soundblaster (specifics unknown but it is a decent card) and a Tascan 122. I am upgrading to Audiology 2 Platinum pro and getting rid of the other two this weekend, so if it is the sound card we shall find out.

    They're usually in the Support - Downloads section.

    For problems like these that are video related I would check the video card for compatibility with your other hardware and software. Do a search on your video card for problems. Windows XP may not show an IRQ conflict unless you've installed the OS as "Standard PC" Which means you'll have no power saving features or IRQ Steering.

    If you're going to upgrade why not go with a pro audio card instead of Soundblaster game cards? The M-audio cards are so much better.

    I probably mistyped the name it is the Audigy, not the Audliology - it is funny how most people assume any soundblaster cards is a game card - although I do use the same system for games, hence I bought a card that will do both.

    As for my freezing problem I noticed my AC'97 card which I use for playback until the new one arrives had somehow gotten removed from the windows hardware list. SO even though I was getting sound and the software was loading all I saw in the windows hardware manager was the Tascam 122 and a "legacy" driver.

    I did a hardware detect in the hardware manager and it popped back in and viola, no more laggy performance.


    So for the original poster maybe removing and readding the sound and video cards in Windows might help.

    We knew you meant Audigy, and every Soundblaster card *IS* a game card - i.e., geared for video games and not home recording.

    Its even funnier how people fall for Creative's marketing ploys to sell their inferior products. Look at how many TM'ed phrases and fancy names they cranked out in this ad.

    "24-bit ADVANCED HD audio" (yeah, ADVANCED... for Creative maybe)
    "supports simultaneous recording of six channels of 24-bit/96kHz audio with low latency ASIO 2.0 support" (Ooooo. Impressive.)
    "the only PC platform to deliver Advanced Resolutionâ„¢ 24-bit DVD-Audio" (Advanced Resolution? Is that like High Resolution? And its not the only one. Its the only one with the TMed description maybe.)
    "playback in pristine 108dB SNR clarity across all channels" (Across ALL channels..that was nice of them)
    "With the unique Creative THX® Setup Console" (Technobabble for a breakout box)
    "you'll be able to create cinematic quality speaker surround with DTS-ES, Dolby Digital® EX movies and 3D games!" (Assuming you have software that will produce that. I'm sure they mean for playing your DVDs.)

    Sounds like a bunch of BSâ„¢ to me.

    Hey, how come you're not using the Steinberg - Cubasisâ„¢ VST 4.0 Creative Edition + Wavelab Lite 2.0 program that came with it?

    OK diversion first:
    Like I said - I DO play games and wanted a card for both. Hence I bought THIS card.

    FYI: I installed the card over the weekend and it did everything I ever wanted a sound card to do, except make me dinner. The THX console is a software console - and since I play StarWars Galaxies soemtimes it was pretty nice...and yeah the surround sound bit is for DVDs or applications that take advantage of that.

    The 24 bit HD thing is some DVD audio bit that I didn't bother reading about or looking into as I didn't care, it recorded at whatever resolution I wanted and I was happy. As for BS on the box - show me a card that does not BS on the box. They all do. In fact the whole point of a white sheet is to BS. Heck Home Studio BSes on their box too. They do it right in the site here.

    BACK TO THE ORIGINAL ISSUE:
    As I mentioned before (and I tested this to make sure this was my problem): If the sound card is not initialized properly in the Windows Device Manager you could be getting the freezing and slow response - as I also did with my old card. As happened with the steelman, I was able to get playback and manipulate sound files, but the machine would appear to freeze up and took forever to come back (no mouse movement or sluggish mouse, etc). Nothing appeared to be wrong. Inf act my sound card even showed up in the device manager. I did the below just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

    If you are using Windwos XP then try right clicking My Computer, go to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Look down in the "Sound, Video and game controllers" and make sure your card shows there. Even if it does, there should be a button on the top of the window (was the right hand one for me - looks like a little PC with a magnifying glass) - this should scan for hardware changes (might be under the Action menu too). Assuming you have not blocked any specific hardware or ignored prompts for software the only thing that should happen is you see a new device found and the card should appear.

    As the others mentioned make sure you update the drivers at this point as well.

    Solved my freezing and slowness problems with looping and playback, etc. Hope this helps you too
