Help from fellow Delta 1010 owners - March 22, 05 6:29 PM ( #1 )
Okay, I looked through the posts already. Here are my questions. I hooked up the 1010 and have an internal SB live 64 to process 5.1 surround. I have 5.1 surround creative speakers. Do I need to use the SB to process internal MIDI as the MIDI on the 1010 in in/out? How do I monitor the 1010 in 5.1? I guess that I need to run 6 outs to respective inputs on the speakers as the 5.1 SB card is not processing 5.1 even when I set the outputs in the surround settings to seperate tracks. What is the best way to set this up. BTW I am using Sonar 4 Producer's edition obviously with surround questions. Do I want to get rid of the SB altogether? Help, Help...Thanks, Mark

If you download the latest 1010 drivers from M-Audio, it allows you to output surround to the speakers if you have a program that can do so. If it works, ditch the SB pronto (disable it).
Live 6, Project 5, Kinetic, Oddity, Minimoog V, Atmosphere, Battery 3, Delta 1010

It's my duty to please that booty!

Okay, I have the newest XP drivers. Does the 1010 control the internal MIDI (softsynths) internally as well as through the breakout box? Does the SPDIF output send a 5.1 signal out or just stereo? I would be happy to ditch the Sound Blaster card if I could figure out how to use the 1010 as my only card.

MIDI: The Delta 1010 has a MIDI I/O but no synth. If you're using soft synths (i.e. in the DXi rack in Sonar) then you're not using the SB synth anyway and you'll miss nothing. If your MIDI tracks are outputting to the SB synth device, then you will have to insert soft synths to replace the soundblaster's on board synth.

Surround: The Delta 1010 can be easily setup to output 6 analog channels for R/L Rs/Ls and C/Sw. If your speakers have analog inputs, it's just a matter of getting the proper cables. The 1010 cannot encode Dolby Digital so the S/PDIF will only be stereo PCM. I'm still running S3PE so I'm not sure how the implementation of surround works in S4 with the 1010.

In the Options->Project dialog, there's a tab for surround .. you just pick which outputs
on the Delta you want for which surround channel .. pretty painless. There are also
some additional re-routing controls on the m-audio panel .. as well as some
bass management settings which you may find helpful for music (the defaults
are mostly for video).

Please need more help from fellow Delta 1010 owners - March 31, 05 8:53 PM ( #6 )
Okay, I have the 5.1 speakers hooked into the 1010 card monitored at 1/2 L. 1/2 R, 3/4 L. 3/4 R, 5/6 L and 5/6 R. When I pick the outputs in Sonar I can get a sample file that tests the separate speakers to fire correctly. When I play anything in windows media player or the DVD player all the speakers are not in the correct order. ????? Also, I am auditioning acid loops before inserting them. They sound great when I hit "play" and audition them. When I import them though "import audio" they are slow and distorted. When I double click them to make them loops, they still are slow and distorted. Any clues? Should I keep the Delta Control Panel active?

Okay, Figured out the sound problem. Any help with how Windows Media Player handles the 5.1 Surround outputs? How they route each track?
