HI,

i am after importing an mp3 into sonar and just doing some touch up work on it. I know this wont be the best qaulity but i am just trying to show someone what things i can do to his overall mix.

For some reason when i import the mp3 into sonar it sounds terrible. The bit rate and sample rate are the same but it just sounds aweful. Is this something i should be able to do?? WAV' are fine just mp3 suck

Any ideas

if the original mp3 sucks, sonar will not help.

the original mp3 sounds great. I have tried with lots of different ones. They are just play back poorly in sonar. Like i say wavs are fine mp3's are not

Have you tried ripping them to wav file before importing? Sometimes people use VBR - a variable bit rate- when encoding, and different "players" affect what you hear.

It's probably MP3Pro or something. There are some derivative standards that interoperate with MP3 but provide low bitrate compliant MP3. Use Winamp (which is MP3Pro aware) to write it to disk (as WAV) first and you should be good.

I bought the Pyro Plus 2004 and have had excellent results with it
There are other free alternatives too.
My recommendation goes to Pyro Plus 2004

If the bitrate (in kbps) of the mp3 really is the same as the sample rate (in kHz) of the audio file, it's gonna sound like liquified dog poo. Not enough data bandwidth to adequately compress a stereo signal. I'd make sure you're using a bitrate of at least 128kbps for stereo, but preferably 192 - 256 kbps.

i bet pilfa meant same bitrate and sample rate as the project.

i've had this problem too, but just w/ certain mp3's i've imported. so to solve it, i just converted them to .wav before importing them into sonar, and that has worked fine.
