driver IRQ not less or equal (bluescreen)

Hello everybody'

Can somebody give me some tips to avoid getting a bluescreen??
I get the following message: DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
It happens 2, 3 times a day to me.
I switched from Logic to Sonar and had this problem immediately from day one I installed Sonar (4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2).
I tried everything I could. Reinstalled a dozen times but unfortunatly. I learned to live with it. But It would be a true salvation if somebody could help me fix this problem.

It thought the more programs I run at the same time the higher the chance of getting a blue screen was. But than I'm not a 100% sure.
I always end up mixing the songs in audio with no midi running anymore. Nevertheless the bluescreen problem keeps occurring.
I use AK sys (akai-software for transferring data from PC to sampler)with my sampler (s5000).
And I run Sonar on a P4 3.4 Ghz with 1Gb Ram and 2x200GB HD
Maybe I should put some more memory in the computer, 2GB?

Are you using a USB MIDI interface? With the latest drivers?

What about sound card type and connector?

What type of chipset does your Mobo have?

Is your power supply sufficient?


I used to have this problem before I upgraded to a different Mobo/Chipset. Not sure what was causing it but it went away.

The amount of memory is probably not the source of the problem. This might be caused by malfunctioning hardware. I have also seen the error with buggy driver software and from antivirus software. If it only happens when using Sonar then I would suspect the audio card drivers are at fault.

How can I change the chipset? How do I know which chipset is the best for me?

If this is a driver problem as I would expect read further down on the Blue screen there should be a line with the name of the driver causing the problem it should have a file extension of .SYS

The computer is not connected on the internet.

I have had the same type message and it always refers to the USB driver. I have an ASUS A7s333 board. What type do you have? Funny, I have an Akai MPD16 driver installed. Wonder if it is an Akai thing goin' on?

Sometimes drivers work better with on program than another. This usually is only an issue with software like Sonar that have such deep ties to DirectX. Most desktop applications don't tie so deep.

As BruceEnnis suggested, look through the text in the blue screen to see if you can identify a .sys file. If so, see if you can determine whether this particular file is related to your sound card.

Chipsets are built into the motherboard. Changing the motherboard changes the chipset. I don't want to sound superstitious but I switched to an Intel based chipset (E7505) and everything that had problems before is now completely stable. This is about two years ago and I'm still problem free.

Others may advocate different chipsets, but, Intel is the way to go if you want to avoid the mystery Bulls**t.

You can turn off the auto reboot after the blue screen it's found in System Properties/Advanced/Startup and Recovery the uncheck Automatically restart

You need to change your Startup and Recovery options (right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery) so that "Automatically Restart" is not enabled. This will leave the Blue Screen up to be read.

The error you mention is always caused by a faulty driver or faulty hardware. Most likely it's a driver that is poorly coded.
