The same problem with V2
hi guys, i started a topic in the past, when I was testing the Project 5 (1.0) Demo, about a very annoying problem. When I run Project 5 (V1, either V2), and I want to do some changes in the settings it restarts my PC... The only one thing I can do is to put in instruments or loading presets, but if i want e.g. click on "file->new project" or "options->audio" or anything, it resets. what can be the problem? i don't have any midi controllers or keyboards - is it possible that this causes this error? please help!

try this open control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery/uncheck automatically reboot. sounds like you have a driver problem. after it shuts down and you start it back up look in control panel/administrative tools/event viewer. you should see a white x in a red circle with "Error" under type, take note of the source. double click on it and note what is said. look at both the system log and the application log. do the specs of your pc meet the minimum required for p5.

thanx 4 the fast reply. so, i made everything you said, and my PC meets more than the recommended, except the memory which is only 512 MB RAM. I've unchecked the automatic reboot option, but now it causes blue screen where it describes the problem(writes memory adresses and advises me to do a full reinstall)- the only way to make it disappear is restarting. In the event viewer i have ca. 40 errors, but only caused by iexplore, flashget, or other software i've installed in the past.

ca. 40 errors i don't know what this is. if your pc reboots automatically an error file is written each time. it should tell you "with a reference from microsofts site" what device, app, or I/O is causing the problem. like this.... The description for Event ID ( 2001 ) in Source ( rasctrs ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: . or RSM could not identify the media in drive Drive 0 of library HP CD-Writer+ 8100. An error was encountered while attempting to read data from the media.

The blue-screen may give you the name of a file that is related to the crash. If it does jot that down and report it back here. In the cases I've seen it is usually due to a buggy driver. The file may have a .SYS extension.

One thing that might also help is to go to the Microsoft website and find an application called dependency walker. It is a utility that traces and displays all the calls a given program makes. If you can determine which application(or even a dll) is giving the error, you can run it in event walker and see what the bad call is in the program. -Bruce

but if i want e.g. click on "file->new project" or "options->audio" or anything, it resets. I agree with the consensus here; probably a flaky driver, but stranger things have happened to me. The 'new project' failure might lead me to believe that a corrupted template file was a possible cause. When all else fails, you can try renaming the Template.p5t file in the Project5 Version 2 folder. Then when you re-launch, P5 will use settings that are generated from its own "hidden" template 'file', and any success with this procedure would indicate a corrupt template. If that's the case, then close down the app, delete the renamed template.p5t, and resave a new one after re-launching. If no template.p5t is listed, that means that you've never used the Save as Template command, and you'll have to look elsewhere for the root cause of the BSOD. Just another option; I still speculate a driver issue.

The file may have a .SYS extension. you're right, today i gave it a try again, and observed the blue screen which said alcxsens.sys caused the error. i looked up in admin tools/event viewer, but there is no error for today in it. so what should i do with this .sys? kill?

I don't know how much help it is but see: http://www.file.net/process/alcxsens.sys.html It's possible that this is something to do with a Realtec (SP?) card on your machine. If your not using it, try uninstalling the drivers. Andy

Andy I've just uninstalled the Realtek drivers and Project 5 works fine now, however there is no sound ;) Thanx for all of your help, now i'm gonna find a useable driver or buy an emu soundcard, maybe a 1212M cheers, respect to the crew

Glad that nailed it for you. You'll enjoy having a nice sound card instead of the Realtek chips.
