vocal harmonizer VST plug-in

Has anyone on this forum used the Clone Ensemble DirectX/VST Plug-in?

I downloaded the demo last night, and I've been messing around with it.
Although the demo is very limited, I think that the full version could be a very useful tool to have in your arsenal, and for the price you can't go wrong.
I'd like to get feedback from other users though, before I buy....

Clone Ensemble isn't a harmonizer as such. It creates varieties of octaves, multiples of voices, allows you to adjust spatialization, has some other tweaks.

Works pretty well, though something like Melodyne or V-Vocal probably does everything it does better plus a lot more. Clone Ensemble is okay if you do your own harmonies.

I use the harmonizer and multiple voice thingy in Band in a Box. Then I export the WAV. file and import it in my Sonar. This approach is a little but fussier than a dedicated plug-in, but it's cheap.

I use clone ensemble extensively. It is especially good for choral backgrounds.

When using harmonies, I put each voice in a separate track with a separate effect. I've found that running two voices into clone ensemble confuses the program and makes it sound muddy.

Also, if you drop the number of voices below four (the default is 8 per voice - alto plus unison = 16), it helps to tighten the image. If the voices are spaced too far apart the separation begins to make everything sound too fake.

Play with it - I have a lot of fun with it.

I bought it last year and have not had as much success as I had hoped for. I imagine that it might be the less than stellar vocals I am running in to it though. Plus I haven't spent as much time tweaking it as I should.

There is (or was) a demo that you can try before buying it.

I tried the demo. It makes vocals sound like John Lennon blowing through the straw into a glass of water on Octopus' Garden. Could be useful for eerie chorus effects but it's no substitute for recording multiple voice tracks.
