    Two ways:

    1. The hard way - edit the registry and put it in manually (good luck!)

    or

    2. The easy way - use Sonar Utils - you can get it here, it's free:
    http://www.ennbr.com/

Bes ure to add it to the menu as type Wave Editor (this will make sense after you see the program)

I've attempted to install Sonar Utils three times and it doesn't show up under the Tools menu. Any thoughts?

I thought Sonar Utils was supposed to appear in S5's Tools menu - it didn't - so I located it in Program Files. I'll see if I can figure out what you mean when you say "add it to the menu as type Wave Editor".
    Thanks for the input.

I'll try the menu Editor. In the meantime, I did get Audition to show up in the Tools menu. I had thought that by clicking on "Audition" I'd be able to open it within S5. When I now click "Audition" nothing happens.

    Hi BTQ1-
When I now click "Audition" nothing happens.

Did you select a section of audio first?

In addition to what Susan says, make sure you have made it type Wave Editor like this:

Snd you can use Sonar Utils to add itself to the Sonar Tools menu by creating an entry such as this (type Generic)

Yes, I was careful to define Audition as a wave editor. It is supposed to launch when clicking "Audition" in the Tools menu, yes?
When I click on it there is no lanunch and the text "Audtion" becomes greyed out. I can't get the option to launch Audition again unless I close S5 out and restart it.

RE: How can I add Adobe Audition 2.0 to S5's tools menu? 2006/03/18 07:03:25 (permalink)
I just noticed some odd behavior. I opened both S5 and Adobe Audition 2.0, ostensibly to preview audio in AA before adding it to my S5 project (my thinking was that if I can't get AA to launch from the Tools menu I'll just run it along side S5).
With a project open I cannot play audio within AA. If I close the project I can play audio from AA.
Is there some sort of sharing conflict going on with my soundcard?
One of the reasons I bought S5 was that I had read I could launch AA from within S5 on an as needed basis. Since I would need to preview clips prior to importing them into a project this was an important consideration, since I do a lot of audio work with Audition and I have thousands of clipst to choose from. If I can resolve either the failure to launch AA or get AA and S5 to play nicely together it would be of great benefit to me.

I wonder if it's a driver setup issue? I'm currently using driver mode WDM in S5. It's the default setting, I believe.

Ah! I discovered (thanks to another thread in this forum) that I needed to tick the "share drivers with other programs". Now, at least I can run AA side-by-side with S5 and they play nice.

Now to resolve the failure to launch from the Tool bar.

If you haven't highlighted any Audio, you can't launch either Audition or Sound Forge! You never did say if you tried it after selecting some Audio... Wildman

Ha! That was it! I highlighted a .wav I had imported earlier, clicked on "Audition" in the Tools menu and it opened.
Thank you everyone for your kind assistance.

Yes, you MUST allow sharing of audio drivers in both apps for it to function properly.

Does anyone have Sonar and AA2 sharing an ASIO driver? This does not seem to work on my system - but isn't this a feature of ASIO in any case? I am sharing drivers in Sonar and having AA2 release drivers when in background mode - I can't see any other relevant parameters in either program. If I start AA2 from within a Sonar session, it fails to recognise the ASIO driver - maybe I should consider going back to WDM drivers?

On my system both AA and Sonar indicate they are using ASIO.

I had some trouble with this too, but the Sonar 5.2 update seems to have fixed that somehow. It may be coincidental, but it does work for me now.

    Thanks for your responses.

I am using Sonar PE 5.0.1 with AA2. Maybe the 5.2 update will cure this ASIO problem. I will install it and report back.

What version of S5 are you using BTQ1? (Just to get an idea of whether the version in use makes any difference)

Another factor is the ASIO driver in use - I am using the 24-bit drivers that come with Creamware Scope 4.5

    Cheers,

I had ASIO enabled in both 5.01 and 5.02. My soundcard is a Gina24 and I am using its ASIO driver. Just this morning I had Sonar and AA simultaneously open and was switching back and forth between each application.
It's easier and faster to preview loops with AA 2.0 as it has an "auto-play" feature.

I didn't read the post so I dont know if you already go the answer but here is what I have and it works:

    ==================================================

How can I add other audio editing programs to the Tools menu?

The instructions below detail how to insert an application into the Cakewalk Tools menu. Adobe Audition is used as the example. For other applications, simply replace Adobe Audition with that Apps' name.

    1) Copy the Blank Tools Menu Entry.reg to your Windows Desktop.

    2) Choose Start | Run.

    3) In the Open window, type REGEDIT, and click OK.

    4) Click the Plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    5) Click the Plus sign next to Software.

    6) Click the Plus sign next to Cakewalk Music Software.

    7) Click the Plus sign next to Tools Menu.

    8) Click once on the folder labeled Tools Menu so it is highlighted.

    9) Choose Registry | Import Registry File.

    10) Locate the Blank Tools Menu Entry.reg file on your Desktop and double click it.

    11) You'll now see a dialog box open that says Blank Tools Menu Entry has been successfully entered in the Registry. Click OK.

    12) Beneath the Tools Menu folder, you'll see Blank Tools Menu. Click this once to highlight it.

    13) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item that says ExePath.

    14) In the Value Data field, type the path to Adobe Audition’s .exe file. You can find this by right clicking on the Adobe Audition shortcut and choosing Properties.

    15) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item that says MenuText.

    16) In the Value Data field, type Adobe Audition.

    17) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item that says Status Bar Text.

    18) In the Value Data field, type Run Adobe Audition.

    19) Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

You should now have Adobe Audition in your Cakewalk Tools menu.

    ==================================================

    Good Luck!

I know about and have used Sonar Utils. It is mentioned several times in this thread. It is the "3rd party utility" I was referring to. Cakewalk should build the functionality into Sonar. Users shouldn't have to download separate tools to accomplish this simple task.

Upgraded to S5.2 last night - there is still ASIO driver contention between S5 and AA2 - I guess this is a feature of the Creamware ASIO driver.
