Don't worry about that new Digidesign toy… give the guy another few months working on sfz v~2.0 and I'm pretty sure you have all the tools needed to build your own virtual drummer thingie. You know, Virtual B3, that's cool… right? … we'll have Virtual Strike before it's even vintage. 0-day emulation.

I'd rather Rene work on a proper drum synth/sampler than some virtual drummer nonsense. Those types of programs just look stupid to me. What I like about rgc:audio is that there has yet to be a "step-child" product. The man can stand behind everything he's put out, unlike many a software developers out there (including some that have worked for Cakewalk)...there is not a single rgc:audio product that he should not be proud about for making.

P5 has quite a few midi loops. While I won't classify these a v drummer.

I bet more than just a few share that feeling trusty More than just a few have said so. I would use Dpro and/or Rapture till such time as the bakers get the time. It's not just do-able. It's right now.

With Rapture and wavefiles you can have 6 drums sound per instance, each with a unique eq/eg/effect/pan/filter. And if you need a seperate out for snare do up a rapture snare instance with all the trimmings. Everything you need is in the gui.

And if your onto sfz each element can have 127 drums sounds. All you need is the wavefiles/oggfiles. Sheech you can snag the wavefiles from your hardware synth if moneys tight. Smartloops has mucho downloable kits.

Frank Basil can set you up with electro, hiphop, acoustic, jazz at a modest price if you don't have Dpro. And if you'd prefer loops? Not a problem he's got those as well.

Drums are right now do-able. And your options are as big as your imagination.

Still, a drum plug-in similar in look and feel to Rapture and DimPro would really complement the set IMO. It should have a built-in sequencer like GURU. Sampled and electronic sounds. This would be killer.

Of course drums can be done now. There are many ways to do most software-based musical task. But for consistency and to further the Cakewalk ensemble concept, I think this is the piece that's missing.

San Diego Boys Know their Toyz... agreed?

Edit: I consider RXP a Drum toy of sortz...especially in my twisted sick widdle mind. I mean click and drag a slice any where you want it...and with the sfz editing. And then there's Rapture and Dimension (pro). Very nice DM's

But there's one thing missing from all of those - the Rene' touch! As I get every so slowly deeper and deeper into Rapture, I see just what brilliance that is!

I don't have a single spectrasonics plug. But they are some of the best out there price is always a factor .

I've said this before. The front end, while nice, is just the front end. I can use sfz/Rapture/Dpro and any drum samples and get pretty much what is needed. And get all the outs I want. But I'm a tweaker and not to fussy at that. Rene did mension something about it's got to be really good if/when its done? Chad said something about compression within sfz Now that would rock with a drum specific sfz instrument. So we wait and they slave and when later it happens we all go wow.

Compression inside SFZ would be really cool. I wonder what other tricks they have in store for us. I do have that funny feeling that Rene and the boys are cooking up something special right now, and we will soon be seeing it.

I agree that I don't need a stupid virtual drummer (with lots of drum beats that accent the same note) I've never found a drum machine that I liked. I do think rgc needs to make a high quality drum machine. I would buy it right away.

I'm not saying Rene wouldn't make a great drum machine, because he would probably make an awesome one. But it would need to offer something or have a unique feature set to get me excited.

What do you all think is missing from todays drum machins on the market? What could Rene do differently than N.I., FxPansion, LinPlug, etc.?

That Sir: Is the $64,000 dollar question. Now I can't say or answer for him but. in all the years I've been buying his stuff. He has amazed me too many times to think if he puts it up it would be middlin? Weather it changes the way we do drums is another matter entirely. YOUR LIST HAS SOME FINE EXAMPLES. And they are available now. The guru for fxpansion is nice?

i like guru a lot because its built in step sequencer, and how you can modify patterns on a note by note basis. The sound shaping abilities are cool too. You can try the demo at FxPansions site.

The same thing he did differently with Rapture.

BTW, you know it's funny, no-one has come up with a "virtual" MPC or Linn drum machine. These things were and are so popular, yet no-one has cloned them in software. We have virtual Prophets, Minimoogs, Arps, CS-80s, DX-7s, and the like. But no virtual representations of the classic drum machines.

Of course Rene's, if there is one at all, would most likely follow the design and appearance of Rapture and DimPro, which is to be expected, and would most likely be best for users who are already familiar with these other two products. But I'm just saying it seems odd that no-one has created a virutal MPC or Linn.

I could really go off on what I think is missing in todays drum machines. I think I might save them for a whole new topic. I need to get some sleep right now.
