disable scroll-wheel volume changes?

the scroll wheel changing volumes and other stuff is a disaster for me.

spent the day mixing a 30 track song, and wondering why the mix kept going haywire.

eventually i realised that i was chaning volumes without realising it.

does anybody know how to disable this feature?

thx in adv

I don't know of a fix, but I vote to make this feature require a control or alt click to change on screen parameters ... would be a lifesaver! Leave the wheel for just the zoom.

Nope. You might see if your mouse software allows the wheel to be disabled.

    Hello,

The problem is not that the scroll wheel now operates knobs and faders. The problem is that you are not used to the new functionality. Rather than familiarize yourself with the new functionality you are calling for a rollback to the "old way." This is a typical reaction to "newness."

There should be a lock option to prevent my mixes from being inadvertantly changed.

I'd be happy with a hotkeyed mix mode, where keypress activates and it remains active until another keypress, like how Crossfade mode works.

I actually like the right-click reversion option on the widgets, but first you have to realize it needs to be reverted.

Yes. This feature definitely needs an on/off toggle. All you need is for someone to grab the mouse and sweep it over the console while moving the wheel to really screw things up.

I think it's a nice feature that was implemented without thinking of the consequences or doing sufficient beta testing.

I really like being able to adjust controls with the mouse wheel.

And I really like not having my mixes inadvertently change thanks to a new "rule" that requires retraining of YEARS of reflexive behaviour: only use your scroll wheel in approximately the right 2/3 of the screen.

Actually, it's worse than just making you try to change years of habit -- it's also poor UI design. No other program I know of lets you change its content or settings just by scrolling over the wrong part of the screen!!! This is simply NOT done. Try it in any program you like -- Word, Excel, Audition, IE, Explorer, S5, S4, S3, CWPA9, CoolEdit, or any other program you have -- the scroll wheel moves you around whatever you're working on, or enlarges/shrinks what you see of it. In no case that I can think of does it delete paragraphs of text, change column formatting, normalize audio, click on links, change fader or volume levels, etc.

Think about it. Sure, it's a new feature. Sure, it takes some getting used to. But for goodness' sake, don't implement it in such a way that your program acts like no other on the planet, and your users have to combat years of near-autonomous movements.

Hell, this is even a bad implementation from an ergonomic point of view -- give your mouse a nice push to the right every time you want to use the mouse wheel to move around! We may well be hearing about "Sonar shoulder" in the forum a year from now.

This could ALL be fixed by simply requiring CTRL or ALT or SHFT be pressed while using the scroll wheel to change values. It's that simple.

In addition, it could also be a user-selectable option. Or two: one to chose whether to allow the scroll wheel to modify values, and another to select which key you need to do so (none, CTRL, SHFT, ALT).

    This way, everyone wins.

Also, and I said this in another post, Sonar needs to make its UNDO function work like every other program on Earth -- whatever you do can be undone by it. Not just some things. You can undo a recorded track with CTRL-Z or EDIT | UNDO, for example, but not a volume, fader or pan change. Bad UI design.

Any non-destructive action you can perfom MUST be able to be undone the same way - with the one and only UNDO function. Additional ways (right clicking on control) are nice, but they should only be supplemental to the main UNDO. And the main UNDo has two additional virtues: it tells you the last thing you did (you could SEE if you unintentionally changed a fader!), and it lets you undo things without knowing exactly where you made the boo-boo (what track, what control, etc.).

Now, if CW wants to really earn some bonus points, it could add a "History Window" allowing you to selectively undo any of the last x actions, without undoing all of them (say, actions 4, 12, 16 and 33).

But that's probably a pipe dream for now.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    My cents:

    Scroll feature =good.

Making scroll feature option = better.

I was thinking this today as well. I have this happen all the time cause before the wheel would move my tracks up and down. Now when I wanna see tracks below the viewable ones I usually mess with some slider or knob parameter. I REALLY like having the abiltity to revert to the previous value tho!

Anyways, this feature is great honestly. It just needs a hotkey.
