No serial number!!!!!!

Hello:
I'm new in the forum although I've been a user since Cakewalk 3.0
This first thread is to see if someone frome the moderators or staff can do something about my missing serial number. There was no e-mail or number in the DVD or manual. I tried to reach Cakewalk by phone with no luck, also the office is closed until monday.
I bought it directly by the net. I would want to work with my Sonar 6 as soon as possible.

    insom,
Create a new acct at the webstore, and it will match up your info and allow you to access your serial numbers and account history. At least, that is how it is supposed to work. If you use a diff email addy, it may not match you up correctly. But it SHOULD be in there. If not, you can always drop them a note and they'll email you back the number.

Check your SPAM folder too. Some email clients treat Cakewalk email as junk mail. I believe it comes from noreply@cakewalk.com.

    I can't register without a serial no.
So, I tried to register my Sonar 4 but I'm getting this message:

    ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

You should be able to start up Sonar 6 without the serial number; simply cancel or otherwise bypass the screen that asks for the registration code. Then in Help/About Sonar, you should see your serial number displayed.

On edit: I'm relying on my memory of having only to enter the registration code --- hope that's correct.

I don't think so, I belive you enter serial, name, (company name - opitional), before it installs. No serial = no install. You register after it has installed and starts up. And you have a 30? day opition to skip it. (going on my memory).

    Yep, that's how it works.
This 'no serial number' in the instalation DVD or manual is a new thing for me. Is the first time I see a company that doesn't provide means of instalation with their product. This is so frustrating!!! I feel like a kid in Christmas with no bateries in his new toy! Besides that, if you won't provide the serial no., you should create an automatic registration system, like any other company.
I just hope that the rest of my story with Sonar 6 is different...

But you still have a full 30 trial with no limitations until you contact Cakewalk support. Has this problem been going on for more than 30 days? Or are you not getting the 30 day trial?

He can't install it. You are thinking of the registration code. That comes after the install. He is missing the serial. You have to enter the serial or the install wont even start. He can't do anything (with the prog, he has to contact cakewalk or he wont be able to do anything).

btw, go Devils! Ottawa look out sorry saw NJ, couldn't resist

would you tell me exactly where?

If you bought it online at Cakewalk, Go to the home page of Cakewalk, go to Purchase > Music Store. When you get to the music store, there's a navigation bar at the top. Far right is Sign In. Sign in with the email address you used. Once you login the serial and registration numbers are there.

    Hope this helps!

Bizarre system. The manual says one place, (it's not there), the website says they'll email it (didn't) and no response from tech support.

I have the opposte problem, namely got serial number and reg code from Cakewalk via email on 6th Oct. But still waiting for the software (upgrade from PE5 to PE6) to be delivered!
I tried Finbarr's suggestion, but instead of getting the Music Store under Purchase, the only similar option is Cakewalk Store. And that only invites me to purchase Sonar (which I have already done, but not received)
I live in UK, perhaps thats the reason for delay?

I also got my S6PE upgrade without a Serial #. The origin of the package was from was from AFNA Receiving, Hewlett Packard, Avard St, Nashua, NH. I wonder why HP is drop shipping for Cakewalk? I'm still waiting to hear back from customer service.

I checked my account on their web site and they hadn't entered my Sonar 5 purchase from last year. That's wierd cuz I know I registered it online to get the Registration code to unlock it. It shows all my upgrades since Cakewalk 3 except all the ones that were 'automatically registered' when purchased. I've upgraded faithfully every time since Version 3.

I wonder how many other victims of this blunder are out there?

Got this problem with Sonar 5. Still waiting for Sonar 6 upgrade to come, but they sent me an email with Serial for 5 without a problem. Cakewalk, as far as I experienced (also since Cakewalk 3 in the 90s), had always showed respect to loyal customers.

Don't know if they now also felt into the trend of manufacturing CDs in China.... But this may be the explanation ;-)
