[track] Intense Color

Hiya. Myself and a guy who calls himself sephfire worked on this track. It's actually a semi-remix (arrangement is probably a more apt, but less cool way to describe it) of a song from the Super Nintendo game Mario Paint, but it deviates so much from the original, it's hard to tell.

It's a badass electronic song with some orchestral elements, sweet beats, and crazy sounds. We incorporated Nintendo-sounding synths in there once in a while for fun (using Triforce VSTi). This song is an aural kick in the pants. Hope you enjoy.

download 5.9 mb

Here's the original midi of the song we referenced if you wanna hear it. Kinda funny to see how we transformed it.

Certainly can't fault the production in anyway, it's stupendous. So much going on all the time, but every instrument comes through clear as a bell. Musically it sounded like a really fun track. maybe not a prefered style for me, but i did enjoy it. Good one.

Cant wait! I eagerly await all your productions after that last one of yours (the rap).

    Hurry up and download!!!

Ok..... Love the dreamy entrance you made!! Man...what you do with a sawtooth! Love the percussiveness of the synths!! I'd love to look over your shoulder while you produce. I'd learn soooo much. I hear a lot of the stuff I try to emulate...but don't know how to do it. I love the piano in there...its eerie. Almost like :10:'s stuff... only much more melodic.

I'd say of all the music I hear in this forum, yours is the easiest for me to appreciate. Well... Cloudwalkers stuff too, but you catch my drift.

Really wicked hook. The 64ths on the percs really is cool...I gotta remember to use those kinda fills. I loved that pseudo-ending too. Was this done in P5? Its really amazing.

I have to say, you really keep me diggin in to this software. You sure know how to drain every ounce of goodness from this app! You're a true P5 expert, Danny! Love your stuff!

    Thanks for posting it!

Heheh. I kinda skirted around the fact that I didn't use P5 a whole lot for this track :).

sephfire did most of the arrangement with Reason 2.5 and then sent me his project file. He's not so hot on the production side of things, so I offered to master it and make it sound huge. But then I added a whole lot of stuff to it with various techniques in Acid pro 5. (Note...didn't use ANY canned loops or anything like that). I like to bounce audio from P5 or Reason into Acid loops then chop, reverse, and do stuff like that. Also, a favorite technique is to make a feedback-tastic delay effect on an aux buss (for example, the feedbacky echo sound in the beginning), solo that aux buss, render a little bit of the project with just the feedback sound. Then I have this little audio clip that decresendos. Reverse it, and you've got this neat pad that crescendos. Then I can pitch shift it, chop it, etc. It's like making some weird audio collage :). All those screaming sounds around 2:30 are done with that method, but I put some Camelspace on em for some filters and echoes and whatnot.

I'd love to say I do these types of things in P5, but I find P5 comes up a bit short in the heavy/weird audio manipulation area. It's bounce to track bounces the whooole length of the project, there is no reverse clip function, and I enjoy Acid's node/line automation more than P5's graph.

I used P5 for the Nintendo sounding synths because Acid is horrible for VST instruments.

I've got more songs coming up that use P5 a lot more. If this one hadn't been started in Reason I would have used P5 quite a bit.

Glad you guys like the track though. I like the community here, that's why I still post my tracks that don't use P5 so much ;)

edit: oh, glad you like the fakeout ending I thought it would be fun to kinda trick people into thinking the song was done there.

oh if you want to hear the difference between what sephfire gave me (straight out of Reason) and what I added to it, check out this mp3: http://www.wam.umd.edu/~danadler/intense_color%20sephfire.mp3

so I offered to master it and make it sound huge.

Wow, did you ever!! That was superbly done. Not something I'd listen to regularly, but I can really appreciate the quality of that production. Excellent!

I second Orphans WOW!! I really liked that!!

As everyone has said awesome production - I liked the very busy nature of it - lots going on for my short attention span!!!

One of my favourite tracks I have heard here, now if only I could produce something of that quality!!

    Great track

    supergreenx:

this does have a huge sound. nice work. very pro sounding mix and production techniques. I'm listening on a a system with subwoofers and that bottom kicks through nicely.

Reminds me of a guy over at soundclick who goes by the name of teque.

    Hmmmm...I liked this track.....

I didn't really like the orchestra hits. I thought they were a little cheezy.

The reverb sounds really nice....What reverb did you use?

The production seemed a little too "wide" for my tastes. I'd place elements in the stereo field so that they have a little more purpose.

Other then that it sounded nice if not a little too dancey for my taste.

Mostly the Reason reverbs and then there was some Camelspace echos with a little of its reverb on some things.

Love the pose! Although it does seem pretty hard and "elitist"...ehheeh...although not so bad as these:

    DJ Tiesto

    P.P.K.

    SolarStone

    BT

    Gigi D'Agostino

    Paul van Dyk

I thought it was odd that you chose super"GREEN"x rather than RED...that's why I asked.

SuperGreenX is a really old internet handle for me that I began using for music when I was new. Green can mean new and inexperienced, and also in one of my favorite movies, the Fifth Element, the characters say "green" instead of "cool" or "great". Someone already had SuperGreen on AIM so I put an X on it because X's are super cool right? I just go by SGX now because I think it looks cooler. AFAIK, this forum won't let you edit your username, or I would have done it earlier.

Superb. Sounds quite BT-ish to me. Nice mixing.

To think, at one time P5 was a $429 MSRP app.

I dug that one out of page 3,

Just to show you how behind I am in the listening department, I don't think I'll ever catch up.
But I wanted to give this one a bump because I enjoyed it a lot. As everyone as mentionned, very professional and impressive production work.

BTW : you can change your username, just register again with another email address. As far as I'm concern SuperGreenX is a fine name. Anyway, I don't think anybody here is in any position to critcize anyone else username
