[track] - Watching the World Go By (updated)

Hi,

wonder if you can help me out, I have this unfinished track and I am totally stuck as what to add next. Currently it has no melody, but to me seems like quite a good background, maybe it could be left as it is, but it seems a bit same-y. Maybe I should just add a lot more samples/SFX or instead try and get some melody ideas.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

cheers

Rich

This is very nice Rich and a definite return to form after your last track. This has an early 70's old school vibe and sound. I have an album from that period by the german band ASHRA and this would have fitted on it nicely. I would'nt say there's no melody, in fact there's quite a lot of melodic parts in there. If this was my track there's no way in the world i could resist putting a piano on top, probably in the last third to bring it to a finish. I don't think it needs much more adding to complete it imho. As it stands it's a pleasant chilled, dreamy ambient track. Nice one.

    Hi Rich,

Since I missed the boat on your last track, I'll try to comment about this one. Opening chords really hooked me right away - gave me a good feeling that I'd like the song. Bubbling bassline's nice too. Personally I don't think that it needs more melody - with all the glittering arps, the bassline and the chord progression, it has a lot of harmonic content already. Given the mood of the track, I think the repetition that is there is fine - as Blipp noted it's got a nice feel already, and if it were busier, perhaps that would be lost.

    Thanks for the replies guys,

CW - cheers for the mail, I might try a little melody, but only towards the end as everyone seems to like the current simple structure.

Blipp - cheers for the +ve feedback - again see above as to melody - might try an acoustic guitar instead of a piano for a change.

ucacjbs - I must admit I tried really get some lush chords/pads for this, I was aiming for an atmospheric type track, haven't really made a track without a very obvious melody before so wasn't sure if this was a little repetitive, thanks for saying it isn't!

    I will repost any updates.

    thanks again

I like it as is. I thought I heard some occasional afro tribal vocal tones creeping through(?), if you have a sample you could perhaps develop it slightly.

Blipp, was that Ashra - New Age of Earth? Only heard it once but was totally taken by the uplifting tonality, bit like this track. Did try to get a copy but never found it in the music stores.

    ello,

have added a little melody to the end, just a little nylon acoustic. It isn't the same as playing the guitar over the top, but as I no longer have a guitar this will have to do.

See what you think. See if you prefer the new version or old version with out the extra melody.

    cheers

#2 has my vote. A track to be proud of...

Minor comment, but the drums overrun where the track should end / fade.

Yep This sounds even better now Rich. It did'nt really need a lot doing to it really, but what you've added is the icing on the cake. Very nice.

I'd advise you to check that ASHRA album out as well Rich, i think you'd like it.

    Thanks again guys.

Blipp - I had a quick listen on Itunes - only the little they let you listen to tho - sounds like something I would like. My taste in music has changed recently, I am really loving the chilled sound, and that coming from a metal background!!
