trackpad with sonar platinum on Windows 7?

Hey All,
On Windows 7, can I use a trackpad with Sonar instead of a mouse? I'm used to all of the gestures etc as a mac user, so I was wondering if it would translate to trackpad w/sonar platinum. Specifially pinch / zoom functions? Would there be any drawbacks to using a trackpad vs a mouse - meaning are there functions in Sonar that just wouldn't work as good with a trackpad as they would with a mouse?

Thanks in advance for any and all input.
Cheers,
Christopher

That's an interesting idea to emulate touch screen - I bump it for you....

Don't know if it applies to what you want to enhance, but I use ContourDesign ShuttleExpress

Do very well with jog wheel do horisontal transport with left hand, and having right hand free for mouse.
Some buttons on Shuttle I do zoom with etc.

    Plenty other solutions too....

Is this an Apple magic trackpad? In any case, you'll certainly be able to use the trackpad, but gestures is another matter. The Apple trackpad will default to basic mouse operations in Windows. In SONAR itself you'll be bound to standard mouse movements as translated to the trackpad. Something like this (see link)might be a solution, but it is difficult to say how effectively it will work in SONAR without trying it out (would cost $8) - http://www.trackpadmagic.com/magic-trackpad/home

Windows 8 onwards have better trackpad/gestures support than 7. But a trackpad will work with any version of Windows right back to Win95 and before so long as it appears to Windows as just another mouse. Sometimes attaching a trackpad will get Windows to start loading up its accessibility features, so be prepared to do a bit of configuring.

I second the Logitech suggestion, I've used their trackballs for a long time and recently switched to a trackpad. I have an Apple trackpad I use with a Mac but Logitech's product seems to work better with Windows, in my opionon at least.

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
