transfer data to pro tools?
hey all, I just finished recording in music creator and I want to edit a little bit in pro tools. It's for a school project and I have to work in pro tools so I figured I would just record in cakewalk and bring the project over to pro tools. Is there a way to do this? are any of the cakewalk files readable by pro tools? i saved it as a work, a template, and a bundle. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Can you export each track as a wave file, then import them into pro tools?

Yep - Al's right. CW and PT don't speak the same language. You'll have to save as wav or wma or mp3 files then import them into PT. But you can save each individual track as those types of files if you want and still keep your individual tracks available for mixing.

Can you export each track as a wave file, then import them into pro tools? That's exactly what needs to be done save as a wave and if the track has many slices then bounce it to another track. And make sure the track starts at zero on the time line.

I'm not sure that is going to work Jon, Altho- I'm surely not positive, I just didn't have much luck doing it that way. I certainly could have been making a mistake, but just couldn't get it going as regular wav files. I had to bring the files into SONAR4 [which i was lucky enuff to have a friend right there w/it on the spot] and then import them out again to PT as 'OMF' files. Which worked great, by the by... Please let us know if you are able to bring them in as straight up wav files. I'd be very interested in finding out if / how this works for you. Bestest, C/Maker

Cake - really?! PT can't import wav files? I would find that very difficult to believe. (I'm not trying to be antagonistic, here, I respect your answers in the forums - you seem quite knowledgable). I can't say that I've tried it myself, but what kind of problem did you have? When a big name band came to our church for a concert, I was able to work with the sound techs for a while and they were running PT on digidesign boards; I know I saw them use an iPod to play waves and mp3s thru the PT interface, so that's one reason it would really surprise me if PT won't import them.

PT can't import wav files? You are completely wrong. I import Sonar wave files all the time into PT. Don't know what the problem was at your church but PT will import wave files.

Bruce - Cake - really?! PT can't import wav files? this was a question to Cakemaker who stated in the thread above me that he had trouble with that process of exporting wav files from Sonar then importing them into PT. I was saying that I couldn't believe PT WOULDN'T import wav files, partly because of the situation I described where they WERE using PT to play wave files. If you notice, I stated that I found that "very difficult to believe". I think you just misunderstood. Please read Cakemaker's thread and re-read mine and I think you will understand what I was saying.
