triangle II and Sonar X1 Producer

i've been reading these posts looking for a solution for my inability to load rgcaudio:triangle II into Sonar X1 Producer.

i have done everything i've read in these posts, enabling administrator privledges, etc., but nothing seemed to work.

here's what finally did work for me though it's kind of "jury rigged"...

naturally, download Triangle II from the Cakewalk website and install it

then go to Cakewalk Plug-in Manager under the Utilities menu

highlight VSTi instruments from the list of Plug-in Categories

select the Show Excluded Instruments option

this showed Triangle II in the Registered Plug-ins list

highlight Triangle II

then hit the Enable Plug-in button

this will place it (at least it did for me) Triangle II in the VST Plug-ins list under the Insert menu

note:  Triangle II shows up under DXi, but it doesn't load

in the VST Plug-in option click Triangle II

this loaded an instrument track for me, but when i opened the instrument there were no presets

under the file menu when displaying the instrument interface, accessed by double clicking Triangle II in the Track, i hit load bank

note:  when downloaded and installed this places Triangle II under x64 programs

in the rgcaudio:triangle II folder is the presets folder

open this and double click the default.fxb file and this loaded the pre-sets (it looks like i'll have to do this every time)

i hope all that made sense...  i'm a very new user of Sonar X1 Producer

however,  i think that Cakewalk needs to address these issues so instruments don't show up where they don't work and should automatically load the presets when they do

i wanted Triangle II because i have Simon Cann's book "Cakewalk Synthesizers" and want to learn the basics of synthesis

i hope this works, but if anyone has discovered a more thorough fix PLEASE let me know

i welcome all feedback concerning this post, i don't want to mislead anyone

thanks

Pentagon 1 is Triangle's big brother and is 64 bits.

select the Show Excluded Instruments option

I presume Triangle II was in the Excluded Instruments section of your VSTi group for the same reason it is on my system: SONAR x64 throws the "not properly Installed" error when you attempt to load it. I don't see anything in your instructions that would get around this. Am I missing something?

I don't need it, and haven't tried to use it for a long time. I'm just curious what else you might have done to get it working in x64.

when you list the registered plug-ins after selecting the Show Excluded option
highlighting Triangle II enables the Include Plug-in button under Manage Exclusion List
that seemed to get it into the Soft-synths options under the Insert Menu

the "not properly installed" message seemed to refer more to the DXi instrument which doesn't work in the 64 bit environment, though i was under the impression that Sonar X1 was backwards compatible?

once  you get the instrument loaded you still have to load the bank of presets

i hope that i'm understanding your question as i didn't understand what you meant  by get around it.

I did not install the DXi, because I know 32-bit DXis are not compatible with SONAR x64 The DXis that do still work in x64 have been ported by Cakewalk). The VSTi DLL scans successfully, and I can select it from Insert Synth but it throws that same error. I've had other VSTis throw that error, so it's no DXi-specific.

I also wanted to follow along with Simon Cann's book, Cakewalk Synthesizers and had the same issue "not properly Installed". After several failed attempts, I got this to work.

I installed (as Administrator) the file triangle_II.exe downloaded from Cakewalk. I tried to insert it as a synth (insert->soft synth->Triangle II) but again got the error. I looked at the Vsti list (utilities->cakewalk-plugin-manager) and Triangle II wasn't there. I searched my c: drive for "triangle II.dll" and found it in c:\program files (x86). I copied it to c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins, where all the other 32 bit Vst plugins are located. I then rescanned the Vsts from the plugin-manager and it was found. I noticed that Triangle II is found in 2 places in the Insert Soft Synth menu -- 1) the original one that appeared after I installed it - still broken, and 2)under vstplugins->Triangle II. The second one works. It doesn't load the default.fxb, but after finding it (c:\program files (x86)\rgcaudio triangle II\presets) this loaded and becomes the default directory for file open. I copied Simon Cann's fxb into this directory for quick loading as I'm practicing. I also found the triangle II.exe in c:\program files (x86) - this is the standalone synth and is actually all you need to do the exercises in Simon Cann's book. Note that it has almost the same name as the installation file.

If you're also reading this book, note that Pentagon I is no longer free (I guess after Cakewalk bought it). It costs $50 now from the Cakewalk store. I purchased it and installed it with no issues.
