trying to get the arp sound for bargain

hello, first time posting in the section.

i'm recording a cover of the who's "bargain" just for fun. it would've been a demo for a cover band i played in, but the band dissolved a couple of months ago (what else is new).

anyway, i'm trying to find a sound to cover the arp synth part and i'm having trouble. i am the singer, but the part is pretty simple to play. if i had the sound that fit, i could handle it.

i was hoping that a couple of the "synth people" out there might know what's up.

i'm using an alpha juno and the soft synths that come with x1 prod.

thanks for any pointers.

thanks for the tune mike... what a trip. i almost fell into a sleep/trance. that was cool.
although, i think you might be thinking of the who's arpeggiated sequences in songs like baba o'rielly and who are you love reign o'er me.
the sound i'm after is just a patch.

tried to insert pentagon 1, but got this message:

    failed to insert soft synth.
the synth may not be properly installed.

is that soft synth part of x1 pe?

    thanks

I don't know if pentagon was included with X1 or not - I'm still on 8.5 - but it works fine for me still - I haven't used it in a long time but just tried it to make sure.

That's disappointing. Pentagon was a favorite of the extra synths that come with SONAR.

You might ask upstairs for help with the install trouble shooting.

    Good Luck.

    best regards,
    mike

after asking about this in the cakewalk instruments forum, it was suggested that i open sonar x1p as an administrator and that should solve the problem. i did, and it did. i'm still not sure why one would have to open the daw as an administrator in order to get a soft synth to load, but at least it loaded... if all problems were like this.

so now, back to the who...

    thanks again.

    thanks for that link nw,
i was able to download that arp clone and a minimoog clone but they went into my documents folder and i don't know how/where to put them into the folder with the other plug-ins and soft synths. the same thing happened a few days ago with a free voxengo spectrum analizer.

anybody know what to do about that?

    thanks for any info/help.

Personally, I think the Pentagon is very undervalued.

IMHO, it's a great little synth with virutally 1 function per knob and, as Mike correctly points out, it makes you think back to your hardware days, dialling up Oscillators, Filters, Envelopes, LFO's etc.
And you can save as many patches as your pc will allow (tens of millions I'd guess)

    Good shout.

With some plugins you need to install them but with others it is a simple matter to put the DLL files in a suitable place so Sonar can find them. I use a new folder say called 'Analog Synths' and that will be inside the VST Instruments folder inside the main Cakewalk folder in the Program Files folder. You might have to rescan your pluigins before Sonar knows about them.

One of the biggest baddest and fattest analog synths I have ever come across is SUPERWAVE P8. This is another free VST. A simple search will bring you to it. It looks like a Roland synth a bit but definately sounds like one though. It can be so fat it is unbelievable. I had a room full of actaul hardware analog synths and I don't have one now but still have as many or more than I did before. Long live the VST!

thanks jeff, i guess i can't just put them in the same foloder as the other ones? they need their own folder? what about the voxengo spectrum analyzer? same thing?

thanks, i'm kinda clueless when it comes to this kind of computer stuff.

You can put the .dll files in your plug in or synth folders with your other dlls. Some people like having individual folders for better organization.

The "minimouge" moog clone is really good too!
