trying to uninstall a program

I installed Fender Amplitube a few months ago, and now I want to uninstall it.   However, when I click on the program to uninstall it, a box comes up that says, "Setup.exe has stopped working" - and it won't let me uninstall it.

Any suggestions??

Thanks!
Greg

depends on the installer.. run it again.. it may give you the option to correct it etc.

otherwise, start menu , navigate to where it is, view properties and find it's location

remove that folder assuming you know it's 100% that only.. and maybe have a look in ya vst folder as well.. then use ccleaner to remove any orphaned  registry entries

I have had to manually rip programs out by their slimy roots before.

When I have had to do so, I have gone and deleted the program folders, and then gone into the registry to find them and removed them there too.

Programs that have corrupted uninstallers require reinstalling the software to fix the corruption then can be uninstalled.
Otherwise you have to do it manually as noted, but first backup the registry in case you accidentially remove something that corrupts the registry.

I use "Revo Uninstaller Pro" and it has a feature of "forced uninstall" that will uninstall reminants of programs.  That is a little safer than manually editing the registry.

So far everything I tried hasn't worked.    Ever since I installed the program, when I record audio it causes my computer to freeze for about 10 seconds.   I need to uninstall it to hopefully get my computer working correctly again.

    Thanks for your help!

Reinstalling and then uninstalling it did the trick.   Thanks!

    I have one more question . .

I installed MOTU Electric Keys a long time ago and then uninstalled it.   It doesn't show up in Uninstall a Program.   I even did a Search for it, and it says it's not on my computer.

However, when I go into Program Files (x86), there it is.   To install it takes forever, so I would hate to reinstall and then uninstall it.   Is it possible to delete the folder directly in Program Files (x86), or would that damage something?

If the Electric Keys is not interferring with anything and not showing up anywhere (e.g. Sonar) its probably safe to just uninstall the folder.

Rename the folder (if it will let you) by adding old to the front of the folder name.  If nothing bad happens after about a week you can assume its safe to delete the folder.  If it won't let you rename it, try moving it to some temporary folder location and then again if nothing happens you can assume its safe to delete.   I keep a "Temp" folder on my hard drive for things such as this.  C:\Temp

Greg, I see you've fixed your problem, but just in case anyone else has this problem, it's worth knowing that Amplitube also has its own dedicated uninstaller. Find it quickly here:
    • Start > All Programs > IK Multimedia > Amplitube 3 > Uninstall Amplitube 3
