unable to record via midi keyboard

iam having problems trying to configure my son software.
we are using music creator software 2, Edirol UM-1SX USB Midi Interface and a midi keyboard.
my problem being i am unable to record through the midi keyboard.
gone into options selected midi devices and choose Edirol UM-1SX USB Midi Interface as input and output.
played back the midi demo through the midi keyboard and it works fine (green light blinking).
selected new midi only template then track1 armed with r opened piano scroll pressed record but its not picking up a single note.
any ideas?
thanks for all comments.

Your midi keyboard isn't a synt. It has no soundbank only keys
the sound comes from your pc soundcard select as inputdevice edirol um-1sx-usb and for your outputdevice sw synt wave table or microsoft synt.

then track 1 record device input edirol-usb and output microsoft synt select midi channel and instument

sorry you miss understood me i meant to say my keyboard is a yamaha standalone keyboard with midi output. ive selected microsoft synth in the soundcard
and in music creator still no joy the only selection i am getting is Edirol UM-1SX USB and microsoft midi mapper nothing else.
and in track 1 the output choice im getting is new drum map no microsoft synth.
it did work when i first started out as i recorded 2 tracks then its just stopped working?!

unselect midi mapper it is not a useable option, then select the edirol USB as the in and output, then you need to patch a cord between the audio output of the keyboard and the line in on the sound card , Make sure that that sound card is the audio playback and record drvice. then it should work, This way you will get the yamaha's actual sounds as the synths recorded.

You can also use the softsynths and internal wavetable for output thru an audio track, this make the keyboard act as a midi controler.

i can seen you point. but when i mean record i press a note key on the midi keyboard whilst music creator armed and it appears on the piano scroll. the usb device has 3 green lights on it one for usb which remains solid then the other 2 for midi in and midi out. when i playback a demo through mc it outputs through the midi keyboard just fine green light flickers whilst passing data. but when i try to press the notes on the midi keyboard no light comes on and nothing appears on the piano scroll whilst in record mode. it did work for a time and my son laid down 2 tracks then just stopped working.

Make sure that the keyboard and the midi track are both set to the same channel.
