using the windows keyboard for virtual instruments?
In some of the blah-blah that comes with the XL version, there's something about controlling the virtual instruments with the computer keyboard - can I do this - i.e. - input individual drum sounds by poking keys - and if so, how?

Where exactly did you see this in the blah-blah?
I never saw that in my version (SHS 6 XL).
Unless you mean using keyboard shortcuts to write music in the staff, PRV or event list?

I don't think you can at least not that i could find.

there's no blah blah that says you can use the computer keyboard for controlling virtual instruments to my knowledge. you'll have to point that out to us.
if you want to do that, you can download a program called bome. google it. it's not free, tho.

IIRC there's a third party software to use QWERTY as MIDI-keyboard. I read about it here on the forum quite a while ago.
Could it be possible using TAB and arrow-keys???

yes, that's the bome software I was referring to above. as far as the blah blah that you found, Steve - that may simply be "marketing speak" but there's no way that I am aware of to do this without 3rd party software like bome. www.bome.com

Hi Everyone,
I have half a dozen PC music programs that have a use your PC Keyboard as a piano or midi keyboard for auditioning sounds, using step record, and also using your PC as a mini keyboard to record parts. Some of them allow full chords also, and different rows of your PC Keyboard are different octaves.
This is very handy for entering bass line, loop riffs, and rhythms. melodies and harmony parts.
I would like to see one added in the next upgrade.
Drop Zone and Cakewalk Studio Instruments have nice on screen keyboards. I use those.
I do not play two hands at the same time piano. So I do not often hook up a large midi keyboard. Even though I own 3 of them.
