    I say go for it!

For me it was one of the best purchases I've made for my studio. I use it every time I use my studio, I use the control surface, it as an interface, I've used the recording to SD card feature in standalone mode for offsite projects capturing spoken word, I use to think that the RCA in ports were useless and I'd rather have TRS ins, but I have used them a few times to record sound directly out of my computer.

It is SOLID construction, that is one thing I always liked about Roland, it doesn't feel like a cheap piece of junk. So yeah, in terms of getting your money's worth out of it, I think you definitely would. The drivers are excellent, I can go down to 48 samples, but if I want low latency and stability (with my mobile workstation anyways) 96 samples is a nice balance between low latency and stability. I easily get under 10msec RTL.

I really like the V-Studio 100, and highly recommend it!

I don't know about the 100, but I have the 700 and it is awesome.  The whole V-Studio line has been well-reviewed.

The vs-100 is a good deal.  The preamps are good, the conversion good. The preamp wasn't as good as an API I compared it to, but I didn't expect it to be.  $700 is a lot for the interface, but the controller aspect is great, esp. the fader (the one I had was smoother than the 700's).  The total package is greater than the sum of the parts.

You can also expand it by using one of the other roland interfaces when you reach that point, I believe.  The only thing I didn't like was the built in effects.  The comp wasn't as good as the SONAR stuff and the reverb is really for talent only.  But as an all-in-oner, there is really nothing not to like.

You should buy one of everything...  I opted for the Octa-Capture and I like the looks of the Presonus controller, if I need a controller. I also have a Tranzport though.
Get what you want. You can always get more money.

I am a very happy VS-100 user, but I would like to bring a couple things to your attention - if you are not aware of them yet.

1: As a stand alone recorder, the VS-100 is Stereo, not multitrack. You can do sound on sound, but not separate tracks. Some people do not know this and are disappointed once they learn about it.

2: The VS-100 has really decent convertors and pre-amps, but they are not the same as the VS-700. It may not be enough of a difference to even notice, but it is worth mentioning.

3: If you already have a controller and do not want the VS-100 for that, you might want to consider a Quad or Octa Capture. They use the same converters and pre-amps as the VS-700.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

that's good to know because I have ordered octa-capture to extend my VS100.
Didn't know that it has so good converters though.
