video and audio sync to beat

hi all,
 
in this video here http://vimeo.com/80157094 @2:42 there is a cool sync going on with the audio and video.  I see some option in sonar x3, but not so sure how it is done. are there any blogs on how to work with such a feature?

    Looks to me like the video was edited to sync to the sound track, and SONAR is not a video editor. If you were starting with a video like that where the images are changing in a rhythmic pattern, it would basically be a matter of setting project tempo(s) to fit the frame changes (Set Measure/Beat At Now comes to the rescue again), and then composing the music. But there's nothing in SONAR that will automatically detect image changes and sync to it.
     
    In any case, though there might be someone around here who can point you in the right direction, I think you'd be more likely to get that direction from video-editing/production forum.

    There are many ways to approach something like this...none of them apply to Sonar.  There are three ways I would approach recreating this:
     
    1) Manually create beat markers in my video editing program and simply change parameters at each marker.  Needles to say, that would be a lot of work but would
    2) Use a plugin within a video program that has good sound synching features like the beat reactor included in Boris Continuum Complete: http://www.borisfx.com/Adobe/bccae/
     
    The feature is incorporated into most of the plugins within the sweet and easy to keyframe. Tip for using plugins of this nature:
    Use a single track from your project at a time as sound source.  Much easier to get things to react tro a solo kick or bas line than a full mix
     
    3) Use the scripting language within a program like After Effects to make things react to sound . 
     
     
    The first gives you the most control but is the most time consuming.  The second is the easiest and takes away some control. The third is somewhere in between and results really depend on how good you are at coding.  There are pre-made scripts for programs like after Affects:  http://mamoworld.com/tools/beat-assistant
     
    many of these scripts work like plugins .  This particular author offers great tutorials on using his script.  This particular one is for After Effectfs.  The Boris plugin works with Final Cut, Vegas, Avid and Premiere

    Thanks for the links and ideas, will check them out - sounds like the more depth you look at this the more complicated it gets - I have Power Director DVD (came with the notebook bundled in) that I think does this sort of thing to a certain degree - need to check out the features in the tool too..

    I have never  tried that software.  I looked over the features.  It does look like the more advanced versions of it have a feature to create keyframes based on audio volume and/or panning.  That will save you a lot of work.

    Ive spent the vast majority of my adult life syncing Sonar to picture and i can pretty much tell you those videos where cut to music,  so work on creating cool songs then edit your picture in a video app.  I have long avocated you need a decent picture editing program as a tool to work picture in Sonar anyway.  So get a program and check out plug ins like this:

    FYI, Boris is not cheap but is one of the better all-in-one effects packages.  Honestly, most of the individual effects have competing plugins that are a touch better, but no suite has as many powerful effects .
